Where Is Our Focus
The words in a letter from a very wise woman who lives on Vancouver Island gave me the idea for this article. She said, “This is indeed a wicked-minded world when no one but God through Jesus Christ can cleanse it. There can be no other source on earth except a tremendous act of Divine Power that could make the slightest dent in the thick structure we have built around ourselves.” Recent events have reinforced her statement as we see this world becoming more and more violent and there appears to be no way out.
The unfortunate part is that we have no focus, we are being driven by world events, technology and thinking that change on a daily basis. We have lost our foundation and we are quickly collapsing into chaos. “In the Lord I put my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain? For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart. If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psa. 11:1-3). At the time of this writing we have had 2 major shooting events, one in Toronto, Ontario and another bad one in Colorado where 12 people were killed and people are asking how could this happen and what can be done to stop these terrible things. Unfortunately our nations are so lost that they don’t even know the cause of their problems and without knowing the cause how can you find a solution. We have lost our focus on Jesus Christ! He is our foundation and if we haven’t got Him to guide us and to live in our hearts then we are doomed to repeat all these terrible things.
The other day I had to take my car in for a service and as it was going to take awhile I decided to take the Skytrain to downtown Vancouver and be a tourist there for a few hours. I was pleasantly surprised that a young man gave me his seat on the train, but at the same time I noticed how most of the people (especially the young) were all “connected”. They had their Ipods and their cell phones and almost all were texting or reading on their mobile devices. The nice thing about it was that it was quiet as there was hardly any conversation because they were all using mobile devices. We are losing our ability to communicate with each other and are learning and being influenced by what we see on these mobile devices. We are so lost! I also wonder how all the Electric Magnetic Pulses coming from these devices will eventually affect our health.
Those of us who have a relationship with Jesus Christ and are fortunate enough to know the Israel message can sense that time is short. There are many events still to come and we must keep our hearts and minds focused on the truth. We know that God will not destroy us altogether and we have our firm foundation in Him. We are very blessed to have this relationship and we must not take it for granted. We must fill our hearts with the glory and wonder of our great God. It is only through Him that we will be saved and live in His Kingdom. The great Rev. Spurgeon wrote the following in a sermon he gave and I thought his words express very well the absolute majesty of our God. May God watch over all of you in this time and I pray that you may feel His presence knowing that He is your armor of protection.

“It has been said by some one that “the proper study of mankind is man.” I will not oppose the idea, but I believe it is equally true that the proper study of God’s elect is God; the proper study of a Christian is the Godhead. The highest science, the loftiest speculation, the mightiest philosophy, which can ever engage the attention of a child of God, is the name, the nature, the person, the work, the doings, and the existence of the great God whom he calls his Father. There is something exceedingly improving to the mind in a contemplation of the Divinity. It is a subject so vast, that all our thoughts are lost in its immensity; so deep, that our pride is drowned in its infinity. Other subjects we can compass and grapple with; in them we feel a kind of self-content, and go our way with the thought, “Behold I am wise.” But when we come to this master-science, finding that our plumb-line cannot sound its depth, and that our eagle eye cannot see its height, we turn away with the thought, that vain man would be wise, but he is like a wild ass’s colt; and with the solemn exclamation, “I am but of yesterday, and know nothing.” No subject of contemplation will tend more to humble the mind, than thoughts of God.”
