Where Does My Help Come From
“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.” (Psa. 121)
My thoughts lately have largely been on our hope for this weary world. I say weary because it seems that when I listen to people talking from many different sources that they are complaining about the same problems over and over again. Talk shows with people calling in and complaining about the same problems they were having a year ago, only now the problems are worse. Why are so many of the problems that we are having today not being resolved? I believe many of our problems are because there is a crisis of faith in our lands and as a result of this we have no hope. We have definitely lost our way and because we have abandoned the moral compass that we used in the past to direct us, which was the Bible, we have no direction. We are now living in a society where there appears to be no rules. Anything goes! I have seen people who are knowingly breaking the law and it doesn’t seem to bother them. These may only be minor infractions such as not stopping at a stop sign, or not paying for something if they can get away with it, etc. but it does show the condition of their hearts. Unfortunately these people don’t even seem to know or care that they have done anything wrong. I would define these people as amoral. The definition for amoral is, (1) Not admitting of moral distinctions or judgements; neither moral nor immoral. (2) Lacking moral sensibility; not caring about right and wrong.
How can a society continue when this is the attitude of more and more of the people? It will eventually collapse.
I notice on www.cbn.com that a number of pastors in the USA, who recognize that there is a Spiritual problem in their country, are coming together in Washington, DC the first three weeks in July to call the people to repentance and to come back to God. This gathering is called Celebrate America. Here is a quote from the article, “If organizers get what they want, a country hungry for unity and leadership will see national political, business, and spiritual leaders humbling themselves as one before God. “We’ll be coming together in the very hub of the nation and crying out to God for Him to transform us first and then transform our nation,” Jackson said. Jackson, Howard-Browne, and Boykin believe that then revival could sweep America. “If the fear of God would come back in the people, it would have a ripple effect throughout the land,” Howard-Browne said.”
When I read this it reminded me of 2Chron. 7:14, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” I wish them success and that many will come to repent and receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.
We do need help today but we will not find our help from governments, talk show hosts, celebrities, sports figures, etc. Our only real help today comes from our God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He made Covenants with us, His people, and He, unlike us, does not forget His promises. He will not forsake us or leave us destitute. We are in a terrible mess and the sin in our lands is unbelievable. I have been reading some articles lately on human trafficking and it is amazing how big this problem is becoming. It is just another example of how human life has become so insignificant to us today. A human life can be disposed of or used so easily today through abortion, euthanasia, wars, killing for human organs, sex trafficking and many other abuses. This is not what God created us for and this is not part of His Kingdom. This will soon end. He will intervene on our behalf. He is our help.
Here are just a few verses to reassure us of the help we have when we have the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour. “Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.” (Psa. 146:3). “Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God: Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth for ever:” (Psa, 146:5-6). “For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.” (Isa. 41:13). “So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.” (Heb. 13:6).
