We Must Repent
“For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.” (2 Cor. 7:10)
Where is the repentance in our Israel nations today? I don’t see it. What I see is a people who do not believe there is anything wrong with how they are living their lives. They use phrases such as “I am a good person” or “as long as no one gets hurt what is the harm?” To these people the very mention of repentance and salvation in Jesus Christ brings a look of disdain and astonishment. “What have I got to repent of?” and “Why do I need to repent? I am not doing anything wrong. I’m a good person.”
The times we are living in seem to endorse these responses, especially as God’s laws are being totally abandoned and the line between good and bad is becoming blurred. I suppose many people really do believe that they are doing nothing wrong!
Most of our leaders are changing laws that have stood for years in order to please the people. Although I do believe a number of these laws are being crammed down our throats by the wishes of only a few. Most of our church leaders are doing the same! May there come a day very soon when they will repeat the words of Saul in I SAM. 15:24-25 “And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice. Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the Lord.”
At this time it is hard to know how to reach our Israel people. We have become so caught up in the worldly system and abandoned God that it is hard to know what could bring us to repentance. But God knows! I believe that everything that is now happening to our Israel nations is leading us to such a condition that many will fall to their knees and cry out to our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, for his mercy and forgiveness. “And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.” (Joel 2:13)
We Israel people are a stiff-necked people. We love to hear things that we want to hear and become very stubborn when told we are going in the wrong direction. God has allocated a time for our rebellion to end. I believe as conditions get worse and worse our eyes will open. We will see how far we have fallen and know that there is only one way out of the mess that we find ourselves in. That way is to call on the name of Jesus Christ for forgiveness for all of our manifold sins. We must turn back to his laws and live our lives daily with him. “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” (I John 3:4)
The further and further we fall into darkness and refuse to admit our sin the harder and harder it will be for us. But repent we must and the worse it gets the closer we are to falling to our knees and calling on the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ. “For it is written, As I live saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” (Rom. 14:11) “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth.” (Phil. 2:10)
We will repent! There is no doubt about that. Things are happening so fast now that it cannot be too far away. God is working in his Israel people to bring them back to him. What a great day that will be. “Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. (Rev. 22:14)
