Things to Remember When You Are Overwhelmed
There are times when all of us can feel quite overwhelmed. It doesn’t matter who you are, we have all been overwhelmed at one time or another. When those overwhelming times come, it is important to remember what God has said.
God has a plan for you
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” Jeremiah 29:11
You were chosen in Him before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4), and God has a plan for your life. Whatever happens, God’s Will and purposes will not be derailed. Sure, it may be hard right now, but did you ever think that the trouble that you are experiencing might yield a peaceable and happy reward. We learn through our trials to hold tight to Him and to trust Him — and that, dear reader, is a tremendous blessing.
God can calm any storm
“And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?” Mark 4:35-41
Your storm may have you distressed, but He is ever constant and at peace. There is no storm that our Lord cannot calm — and He can do it instantly if He wants to! If He can still a raging sea in an instant with a WORD, He can calm your storm as well.
Trust God
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
It is hard sometimes to trust others, but God is unchanging and constant and will never fail at anything — ever! He will keep His Word. He has shown us time and time again that He can be trusted. You need never fear. You can trust Him with your life.
God is with you
“Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid . . . for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.” Deuteronomy 31:6
All others may fail you, but He will not. If you put your faith and trust in Him, He is with you every bit as much as He was with Daniel in the lions’ den and just as much as He was with the Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the fiery furnace. He is with you as much as he was with David when He faced Goliath and as much as He was with our ancestors when they found themselves between Pharaoh’s army and the Red Sea.
So dear reader, when you are overwhelmed, don’t fret. Go to the source of all power and all blessing and beg Him bid your storm to cease. Then just watch what happens. “Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.” Exodus 14:13-14
Amen!
