There Shall Be Signs
“And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;” (Luke 21:25)
“For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.” (Rom. 8: 22-23)
We are living in a time of great upheaval in our lands. We have lost our moral compass that kept us on a straight path. Now we are floundering in a world that is full of chaos and corruption. As quoted in the above verse from Romans all of creation too is suffering due to the sin in the world and we are all awaiting our redemption. We are suffering greatly now because we have abandoned our God and have lost the “fear of the Lord”. We no longer love Him and trust Him and are suffering the consequences. The unbelievable weather and earthly events that are happening are causing great anxiety and fear in the world. This year alone so far, we have had massive flooding, hurricanes, fires, tornadoes, earthquakes and now volcanoes happening all around the globe. It appears that they are becoming worse and worse just like the birth pangs before a baby is born. The Bible warns us of this and they are signs that show us we are getting closer to the Lord’s return.
Psalm 89:11 says, “The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: as for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them.” The Lord our God founded the earth and all creation. He is our shepherd that leads us and guides us and when we do not follow His lead we suffer. The things that are happening on the earth will eventually lead us back to Him, as we will find out we have nothing if we don’t have Him. When we lose all of our material things and the things of the world that make us comfortable, we will find that there is nothing left but Him. “I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy. Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son’s name, if thou canst tell? Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.” (Prov. 30:3-5)
We must be watchful of what is happening in the heavens and on the earth. God is drawing us to Him and these things are meant to tell us to be ready and not lose hope. We are to be as the wise virgins who had their lamps full and they were ready. We are to fill ourselves more and more with the power of the Holy Spirit and listen for His direction. We must be prepared to warn people and to speak of these things as they will be searching for truth and comfort. We must not be afraid but be vigilant, staying awake and being alert as to what is happening. Do not be deceived! These are troublesome times but we are told that there will be signs and we are to watch for them and realize the times that we are in. They are the time of Jacob’s Trouble just before the return of Christ. His Spirit is pouring out to all those who hear His voice and follow Him. We are truly blessed.
“And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed. And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the LORD come. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.” (Joel 2:27-32)
