The Times They are a Changing

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”
(Eccl. 3:1)

The words to this verse from Ecclesiastes kept coming to my mind this week as I looked at the world around me. The world today is in a period of great change. As we in our lives have a time and a purpose, God also has His time and purpose for events in this world.

Today the world is becoming a world that we as Christians do not know. A recent article in the Chalcedon Report, February 2004, entitled Pluralism: The New Enemy by Roger Schultz says it all. “There is increasing hostility to Biblical Christianity in America , and it comes from the erstwhile promoters of pluralism and toleration. Some evangelicals have puzzled over this creeping intolerance, assuming that Christianity would be welcomed as one of the viable alternatives in the marketplace of ideas. They fail to understand, however, that man is not morally and epistemologically neutral. Sinful man is in fundamental rebellion against God (Rom. 1:18; 2Tim. 2:25) and cannot tolerate the teachings of Christianity.” As I read this article I could only start to realize the magnitude of where we are heading. This is a world that wants no part in the absolute sovereignty of our God. They want a world where everything is equal.

Christianity and our heritage will become increasingly under attack from those who hate all that we stand for. It is becoming a very dangerous world for those who believe in Jesus Christ and that He is the only way to salvation.

“We live in a very one-way world; therefore, one-way thinking is not unnatural. In reality, the question should be turned around: “Why wouldn’t God have prescribed one way? All of the principles we as Christians believe in are being attacked. The time has come for the separating of the wheat and the tares. We must stand strong in what we believe. As the foundation of all that we believe in is being attacked we must rally together to stand against this assault.

Yes, it is a changing world and one that is becoming increasingly uncomfortable and alarming. In the same article by Roger Schultz, he says, “Those in rebellion against God hate the restraints of His law, and hate those who are faithful to His Word.” Are these not signs of the end of this Age before the return of our Lord, Jesus Christ? “The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.” (Gen. 6:11). “But as the days of Noe were so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” (Matt. 24:37) “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God.” (Rom. 8:7) “Of the world is enmity with God.” (Jas. 4:4)

The world is becoming increasingly more violent. All signs appear to point to the time of the return of Jesus Christ in judgment.

“And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickedness was there, and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there. I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.”
