The Rainbow

Lately, Noah has come into review, since the violence that offended God during his time is, according to Jesus Christ, to be a sign of the conditions prevailing just prior to His return to earth, when He to take possession of His Kingdom to rule forever. As evil grows in every way, we are aware of what is happening and speak of Jesus’ return being near. The Bible describes this situation as found in Genesis 6:5-6, “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the Lord that He had made man on the earth, and it GRIEVED Him at His heart.” In my dictionary, grieve means causing great distress.

What a calamity! And God took action as reported in verse 13. “And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will DESTROY them with the EARTH.” Again, my dictionary, among a number of definitions, defines destroy as “put an end to.” We tend to apply this statement to the people of the earth, but God has said that He intended to put an end to the earth too. He was destroying His pristine earth which He created and evaluated as VERY GOOD. Genesis 1:31, “And God saw everything that He had made, and behold, it was VERY GOOD.”

But the EVIL in the earth was not suppressed because Ham castrated his father and was cursed by Noah. So the evil continued as it is this very day and was consolidated by Nimrod, as descendent of Ham, the father of Canaan and all his progeny. Nevertheless, God made His covenant with Noah and his sons and all the flesh on the ark, that He would never again use the flood to destroy all flesh. And His rainbow was the visible reminder to Him and ALL flesh of His covenant. And it is summarized in Genesis 9:17, “And God said unto Noah, this is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and ALL flesh that is upon the earth.”

The covenants of God are important to the Christian church because they are formalized promises on which we rely as truth. Unfortunately, the covenant which was made at Mount Sinai was not honoured, which is the cause of our problems to-day. Because of the rainbow covenant, we do not live every day wondering if it is the day we shall all be drowned yet again. (Although our behaviour is identical and even worthy!) But we have God’s promise!

But is this symbol important to God? Revelation 4:3, “And He that sat (upon the throne) was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone; and there was a rainbow about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.” Revelation 10:1, “And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud; and a rainbow was upon His head, and His face were as it were the sun, and His feet as pillars of fire.” Yes, the rainbow is part of the majesty in which the Godhead lives! Is the rainbow a pillar of the Christian church?

So, like all the pillars of the Christian church, it is under attack. HOW? It is the symbol of today’s Sodomites! Our Bible, constantly under attack defines the act of Sodomy worthy of death and God even gave us an example of His law when He destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah with fire and brimstone from heaven.

Jesus emphasized the souls of Sodom and Gomorrah in Matthew 10:14-15, “And whosoever shall not hear you nor hear your words, when you depart out of that house or city, shake off of the dust of your feet. Verily I say unto you, it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the Day of Judgment, than for that city.” With the world celebration of Gay Pride Week in Toronto, we are the focus of attention before the world. Last year our mayor tried to have the rainbow flag removed from the flag tower at city hall and was rebuffed. After all, we seem to be leading the world to its fate in supporting the acts of Sodomy!

It is a reminder of the writings of the prophet Isaiah. For example, chapter 3:9, “The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! For they have rewarded evil unto themselves.” And Isaiah 5:20-21, “Woe unto them that call evil good and good evil; that put darkness for light and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!”

Yes, we are presumptuous in our sins. We are using God’s symbol as a flag representing evil! Heaven help us!
