The Counsel Of Balaam

I’m sure you know the story of Balak and Balaam, especially the part concerning Balaam’s donkey (or Ass), who’s tongue was loosed in that he spoke to Balaam. This was after the Ass saw the Angel of the Lord standing in the way, and he refused to go forward. Eventually, Balaam’s eyes were opened, and he also saw the Angel. I wonder which surprised Balaam most, the talking donkey, or the Angel!
King Balak had wanted Balaam to curse the Children of Israel, but God would not allow this, and instead had Balaam bless them. Naturally Balak was not pleased at this, and lest you thought that Balaam was a good man to comply with God’s wishes, he came up with a plan that would set the way for the Children of Israel themselves to commit a trespass against the Lord. It was a kind of ‘worm in the apple’ scenario, and this plan was called The Counsel of Balaam.
The late Pastor Frank Dowsett brought this out beautifully in his lecture entitled “The Nature of Floods”, of which I have a recording from a BI gathering in 2003 here in the UK. In this recording, Pastor Dowsett reveals just what happened ‘in the matter of Peor’, and interestingly enough, the most detailed account is found in Josephus Book 4 chapter 6 – which runs along the following lines: “Balaam had realised that the Lord God would not allow His people to be destroyed by their enemies – He would always ultimately protect them. So, he counselled Balak to get the Israelites themselves to sin, and cause God’s wrath to fall upon them. So, he suggested to him to set out from their daughters, the most beautiful, and place them near to the Israelite camp, and to get friendly with the young men. This accomplished, these daughters also played ‘hard to get’, so that the young men would literally end up begging these women to live with them. The outcome was that the women insisted that if they did, they would still need to worship their gods – and ultimately the young men ended up likewise worshipping these false idols. Shade of King Solomon here”.
Thus, the Lord God was displeased and punished His people. And has not a similar situation been taking place in our Christian Israelite lands today? For we have been flooded with thousands, even millions of peoples of other faiths and cultures throughout the Christian West. It is indeed a rerun of the Counsel of Balaam, but on a far grander scale, and over several years – finally appearing to reach a crescendo!
Pastor Dowsett recognised this back in 2003, and whilst we are not supposed to say it, this is truly an invasion. Back in the late 1960’s I believe, Enoch Powell gave his ‘rivers of blood’ speech, and he was likewise aware of the agenda behind it all.
The term ‘Flood’ is well said. Pastor Dowsett asked the question, what is the worst damage that a flood can do? Well, the answer is that it can sweep away foundations. As we know when an area is flooded the water gets everywhere – into all the nooks and crannies, dislodging and sweeping away everything. It makes us think of Jesus’ parable concerning the man who built his house upon a rock, and the other who built upon sand. The floods came and swept away the house on the sand, but the house upon the ‘rock’ held firm.
Pastor Dowsett quoted from the scripture; “If the foundations be destroyed what can the people do?” He deliberately mis-quoted it, then said, not the ‘people’, but what shall the ‘Righteous’ do!
King Charles III, in his Christmas Message, did mention Our Lord Jesus Christ, but then went on to describe (in my view), Christianity as a kind of social service, and then extended his message to all those of other cultures and faiths. My opinion is that as Defender of THE Faith, and not of ‘faiths’ – he failed to put Christianity and our Saviour Jesus Christ, at the head.
It seems to be the general consensus that whatever the faith, it is all the same God/god. Well, I beg to differ. Our God is NOT the same as the gods and idols of other faiths. Jesus made this quite clear when He stated that HE was the Way, the Truth and the Life. Not only that, but; “He that believeth on Me, believeth not on Me, but on Him that sent Me. And he that seeth Me seeth Him that sent Me……. For I have not spoken of Myself; but the Father which sent Me, He gave Me a commandment …… And I know that His commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto Me, so I speak”. St John 12:44/45 and 49/50.
The Son and the Father are One. Only through the Son, Jesus Christ do we come to the Father – Almighty God. That is the truth! Therefore, if we abide by Jesus Christ’s Words and love our neighbour as ourselves, then surely, we would tell them of Jesus Christ? Shouldn’t this be the mission of all Christians, the Church, and also, he who is the Defender of the faith?
Unfortunately, our Christian/Israelite lands have been deceived and abide under the counsel of Balaam. Our leaders in church and state have been beguiled and led God’s people astray – like lost sheep indeed. The same with the Monarchy. For it is a true saying that the king (or leader) and the land are one. Thus, if the king (or leader) turns from God, then the people follow. It was ever so with the Israelites in Biblical times. And it has been a concerted effort by our enemies to sabotage our lands – from the inside out. “But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that held the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to cast a stumbling block before the Children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.” Rev 2:14 and “Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness.” 2 Peter 2:15
So, let us ask again the question; if the foundations be destroyed what shall the righteous do? Isaiah 59:19 tells us …” So shall they fear the Lord from the west, and His glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.”
The enemy swamping God’s people was therefore prophesied, and so the Lord has it all in hand, and we should not fear, for; “The Lord sitteth upon the floods; yea, the Lord sitteth King forever. The Lord will give strength unto His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace.” Psalm 29:10&11.
Whilst we must stand up for the Truth, and not to be afraid to speak out, nevertheless, the battle is not wholly ours. War is raging in the heavens as well as here on earth. But the outcome is already clear, and Our Lord’s Return very near. So let us have no fear, and step boldly into 2025 – holding firmly to our Rock – Jesus Christ Our Lord.
Amen!
