He Shall Direct Thy Paths

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6

There will be times in your life when you will come to a crossroads and you will be faced with a decision as to which direction to take.

At such times, what will you do?

At every crossroads, one of the roads will be the more familiar road, the more traveled, the more comfortable. It is the road that most people take, because it is the easiest. You’ve already been down that road, and you could almost travel it with your eyes closed. You know where every turn is, and every dip. You know when the road will get rough and when it will be smooth, and you know how long it will take.

Yet, the other road has its charms. There is a certain allure that beckons us towards the unknown. What interesting and exciting adventures await you on that road? It’s something you just won’t know until you travel down it.

It is a true saying that the road less traveled will often yield the greater reward. And so you think, “I’ll go down the road less traveled.” Then as you embark, the uncertainty of what lies ahead causes apprehension.

Weary traveler, the question you must ask yourself is, “Which road does God want you to go Down”? He is the One who placed you at that crossroads, and He is the One who knows best. He will show you the path which you should take. And when He does, take the road He shows you to take — and trust Him.

There is an old verse that goes something like this:

I said to a man who stood at the gate of the year,
“Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.”
And he replied, “Go out into the darkness
and put your hand into the Hand of God.
That shall be to you better than light
and safer than a known way.”

Blessed Lord, teach us all to trust you more.
