Our Life’s Purpose
“Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.” (Rom. 6:13)
In these days of great distress we often wonder what purpose God has for our lives. How are we to live our lives? What are we to do? This is a time of intense confusion and anxiety. At this time we must remember to yield ourselves over fully to God. Our prayers must include a desire to draw close to Him. As this world we live in becomes more confusing and violent we must surrender ourselves over to our Lord. He is our way and our purpose in life. He has a plan for each and every one of us and we must let Him do His work through us. The more God gives us the more responsible He expects us to be. This is a life altering experience. As we draw closer to God our character is developed. Our desire is to be more like Jesus. We must let Him direct our lives. He knows us because He made us! “ Thus saith the Lord, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the Lord that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself.” (Isa. 44:24)
Christian singer, Wayne Watson, sings a song with the verse “For such a time as this I was placed upon the earth. To hear the voice of God and do His will whatever it is.” God has formed us for a reason. It is no accident that we are here at this time.
To serve God’s purpose for our lives we must turn our hearts and our minds over to Him. We must surrender ourselves and submit to God’s purpose for our lives. “Surrendering to God is not passive resignation, fatalism, or an excuse for laziness. It is not accepting the status quo. It may mean the exact opposite: sacrificing your life or suffering in order to change what needs to be changed. God often calls surrendered people to do battle on His behalf. Surrendering is not for cowards or doormats. Likewise it does not mean giving up rational thinking. God would not waste the mind He gave you! God does not want robots to serve Him. Surrendering is not repressing your personality. God wants to use you unique personality. Rather than its being diminished, surrendering enhances it.” The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren.
We must give ourselves over to our God. There is a certain relief in giving ourselves, with all of our problems, over to Him. This way we give up control of our lives and hand it over to Him. Only in this way can God use us for the purpose we were created. This is the only way we can find true peace, happiness and success.
In the same way that we as individuals have lost our purpose in life so have our Israel nations lost their purpose. We no longer govern our countries under God’s law, knowing that He gave us those laws for a purpose. We no longer accept Jesus as the only way to salvation, but accept other ways as well. We no longer remember the promises that God made to His people, but have thrown them by the wayside. We no longer remember the wonderful founding fathers of our nations who knew that God was directing them and that they were serving His purpose. We have no purpose! We live the world’s way and are becoming a frustrated, angry, confused, depressed people. We must wake up soon and give control back to the God of our fathers so that we can regain our purpose or we are doomed! “Attachment to Christ is the only secret of detachment from the world”. Quote by A.J. Gordon taken from Thoughts for the Quiet Hour.
“Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” (Gal. 1:4-5)
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present you bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” (Rom. 12:1)
