Our Health

“Why do we sit still? assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the defenced cities, and let us be silent there: for the Lord our God hath put us to silence, and given us water of gall to drink, because we have sinned against the Lord. We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of health, and behold trouble! The snorting of his horses was heard from Dan: the whole land trembled at the sound of the neighing of his strong ones; for they are come, and have devoured the land, and all that is in it; the city, and those that dwell therein.” (Jer. 8:14-16)

“As nightfall does not come all at once, neither does oppression. In both instances, there is twilight when everything remains seemingly unchanged. And it is in such twilight that we all must be aware of change in the air, however slight, lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness.” (Justice William O. I used the above quote in an article I wrote for the May 2012 TKC titled “Our Food Is In Trouble”. Reading this quote again now makes me realize that in a little less than three years we have become victims of the darkness. As Jeremiah says, we have been given gall to drink because we have sinned against the Lord. Our health and our lands are suffering for our disobedience. Instead of health we now have sickness. Instead of peace we have wars and rumours of wars and uncertainty. We as believers in Jesus Christ, who want to obey the food laws to have good health and obey God, are also being caught in this problem. Our food today is being so tampered with that even when we obey the food laws we do not always know exactly what we are eating. The meat we eat is filled with hormones and antibiotics, the vegetables have pesticides sprayed on them, and there are many unknown additives put in packaged foods. What has happened to pure food? This is what we are intended to eat, not food that has been tampered with by man.

This has all happened so slowly over the years that we have just adapted ourselves to this new way of eating. There is less and less farming and large corporations have taken over our food industries and applied their rules to the quality of the food. Fast food restaurants and the quick meal are largely what people want today. Our health is in deep trouble. I believe a large number of the problems people are experiencing today are due to the food they are eating or maybe not eating, and the environment we are living in. We have lost our way and without God leading us we rely on corporations and the medical system with its large reliance on the pharmaceutical industry to keep us healthy.

I have written before on the dangers of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO’s) or more precisely Genetically Engineered Organisms. An article in the Vancouver Sun, Saturday March 1, 2014 titled “What Are GMO’s” and “Why Are They Here”? says GMOs “are created when the genetic code of a life form is altered in a way that is not possible by natural processes.” These I believe will eventually leave us starving for real food. In a recent article on www.naturalnews.com entitled “GMOs invade fruit industry: Apples, pears, cherries and peaches, to all become unlabeled GMO”, Mike Adams explains the danger we are facing.

“The GMO apple that just received approval was developed by the Okanagan Specialty Fruits Company, which says it “…married the best of nature with the best of science.” The road to Hell, of course, is paved with the best of intentions, and that’s the problem with all these GMOs: Modern science is rolling the dice with a self-replicating “genetic pollution” scenario that could play out in ways that no scientist ever anticipated. As the Food & Water Watch press release explains: The USDA has neglected to look at the full range of risks from these apples. In its environmental assessment, the USDA glossed over the possibility of unintentional effects associated with the technology used to engineer these apples, potential economic impact on the U.S. and international apple market, effects of potential contamination for non-GMO and organic apple growers and the impact of the non-browning gene silencing which also can weaken plant defenses and plant health..… What’s wrong with playing around with the PPO gene? Suppressing this gene may have unintended consequences such as reducing the fruit’s nutritional polyphenols (natural medicinal compounds). Thus, this genetic alteration of the apple might strip from the apple many of its health-promoting qualities.” End. Learn more: http://www.naturalnews.com. He goes on to say “we may end up with a fruit industry feeding Americans “shadow foods” that look misleadingly healthy when they really aren’t.”

If we continue further down this road of GMO foods where science alters the genetics of our food we will continue to eat what some people call “frankenfoods”. These frankenfoods are found everywhere today. Packaged foods contain many of them. As the above Vancouver Sun article says, “A handful of genetically engineered foods are in plain sight. Many thousands of ready-to-eat and processed foods contain ingredients such as oil, sugar, starch and protein made from the main GE commodity crops: corn, soy, sugar beets, canola and cottonseed. None of the genetically engineered whole foods or foods containing ingredients derived from GE commodity crops is required to be labelled in the United States or Canada.” This is a daunting situation and it feels like we almost have to study everything we eat to see what’s in it. The best we can do right now is to try and eat fresh foods as much as possible and try and grow your own food or eat organic. God knows we want to obey His food laws and will watch over us.

The following two verses do give us hope, as we know our wonderful God and Saviour Jesus Christ will return soon to save us out of the mess that we are in. He will deal with those our enemies who have done this to us and heal our lands and our bodies.

“They come to fight with the Chaldeans, but it is to fill them with the dead bodies of men, whom I have slain in mine anger and in my fury, and for all whose wickedness I have hid my face from this city. Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them, and will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth. And I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first.” (Jer. 33:5-7)

“The elder unto the well beloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth. Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.” (3John 1:1-3)
