Our Cultures Becoming Blurred
“In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence:
and his children shall have a place of refuge.” (Prov. 14:26).
The cultures of our lands today are changing and becoming blurred. The technology that we are using today is causing our cultures and belief systems to be blurred. We can communicate to anyone in the world today from anywhere just by using our smart phone. YouTube, online videos, Facebook, twitter are all available to us 24 hours a day, seven days a week and we have an unlimited source of information available to us. The problem is what is this information and how is it affecting us?
In the past our Israel countries were more clearly defined and we had objective criteria where we all basically had the same goals and our beliefs were pretty much the same. These goals and beliefs influenced our behavior. We now seem to have moved to more subjective criteria, which is about what we want and what suits us. This subjective criteria leaves no room for God and what He wants us to do and how He wants us to behave. His laws are completely abandoned and people can do and say whatever suits them. Isaiah 55:8 says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.” When we leave God out of the picture and live by our own rules and laws we are certainly heading for destruction.
We are being influenced by so many different cultures and ideas these days, due largely to new technology and immigration, that we have abandoned all that made our lands so great. God is our protector and without Him leading us we are on our own. “I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust…Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.” (Psa. 91:2,14). When we trust in the Lord we can be sure of His protection and because we have shown our love for Him He will be with us in trouble and deliver us from evil. This is the confidence we can have in these troubling times.
The blurred cultures in which we live today know nothing of this Wonderful God, who is Mighty and Powerful. Our people live in the worldly system that calls evil good and good evil; buy God says, “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” (Isa. 5:20). There are more words for those who think everything is about what they want and how they want to behave, “Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! (Isa. 5:21). God’s hand is always stretched out to us. As bad as we may get He is always waiting for us to repent, but for those who don’t, “Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the Lord of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy one of Israel.”(Isa. 5:24).
We must teach our children to be good and to grow up loving the Lord. Elizabeth Elliott said, “Parents used to want their children to be good, now they want their children to be happy. When a child is good they are happy. When you train a child to be happy it does not always mean they are good.” Let your children know they are loved and that Jesus loves them. “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Prov. 22:6).
