Let Us Walk Even as He Walked

“He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk,
even as he walked.” 1 John 2:6

People know the genuine article when they see it, and they can spot a phony a mile away. If you call yourself a Christian and don’t act like the Lord Jesus Christ, you are doing yourself, your family and the Lord Himself a disservice.

This should not be. If you are a Christian, act like it — and not just when you’re at church. Act like you’re a Christian when you’re at work, when you’re at school, when you’re driving down the road, when you are with friends and when you’re in the stillness of your bedroom all alone . . . because wherever you are, He is right there too, and He sees where you are and what you’re doing.

Sure, if you play the game long enough, you might be able to fool those around you. You might fool your friends, your family and maybe you can even fool yourself, but there is a Judge who sees and knows all, and you’ll never fool Him for a second.

The time is coming when everything that can shake will be shaken, and only that which is genuine will remain. Where will you be, and what will you do on that day?

It is time the people of God rise above the level of mediocrity and worldliness, and live lives worthy of their calling in Christ. Worldliness, fleshly lusts and gluttony have no place in the life of a Christian.

My brothers and sisters in Christ, the reason that we are in the mess we are in today is because we have not been faithful to our Lord and Master. We have sinned against Him — wantonly and brazenly — and many of us don’t even realize just how far we have sunk.

Our Lord adjures us in 2 Chronicles 7:14, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land,” and I believe that only a very few even realize that this means that we . . . are arrogant, that we do not pray, that we do not truly and earnestly seek His presence, and that we are wicked. It can mean nothing else.

O people of God, pray for eyes to see your own wickedness — and humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord. Call out to Him for mercy, and determine right now that you will live the rest of your days in dedicated service and devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ. He gave His life for us, “that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto Him which died for them, and rose again.”

We have an old Bible that has on its endpaper a handwritten inscription which reads,

Be what thou seemest;
Live thy creed;
Hold up to earth the touch divine;
Be what thou prayest to be made;
Let the great Master’s steps
Be thine.

And we say, Amen, Lord. Help us so to do.
