God’s Way or Our Way
“Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them in derision.” (Psa. 2:1-4)
I have always loved Psalm 2. I think it shows exactly where we are today. Our leaders and rulers are causing our nations to fall into a dark and frightening decay of which there appears to be no escape. Our enemies are raging and the people are so full of their own knowledge and ideas that they have abandoned our God and Saviour. They are vain and I think the definition for vain is perfect for who we are today.
The definition of vain is:
ADJECTIVE – having or showing an excessively high opinion of one’s appearance, abilities, or worth. “their flattery made him vain”
Synonyms – conceited · narcissistic · self-loving · in love with oneself · self-admiring – producing no result; useless. “a vain attempt to tidy up the room” ·
Synonyms: futile · useless · pointless · worthless · nugatory · to no purpose · in vain · having no meaning or likelihood of fulfillment. “a vain boast”
These vain people are full of their own abilities and worth, that they have no time for our God. They meditate day and night on ways to destroy our God and His Word. They are angry and in the end their attempts will be futile and worthless. He who sits in the Heaven will laugh at them for their useless attempts to destroy His creation and His people. They are so conceited and think so much of themselves that they do not realize the path they are on is futile, “Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:” (Rev. 3:17). Our enemies believe that they can fight against our Lord and win. How arrogant is that? They do not know what a mighty and powerful Lord we worship and He is our Protector and Saviour. He will soon release us from these chains that bind us. Then watch their reaction. Our wonderful God is letting us know that this will not last forever. He will only let it go so far and then in His mercy He will save us from a world gone mad and destroy our enemies. Our responsibility is to decide which side we are on. Do we want God’s way or our own way? Do we want to continue to live our lives by the world’s standard in opposition to God’s Word thinking that it constrains our life and that we know better? This is foolhardy and leads to destruction but it is our decision to make. Our enemies love it when we take this view, as they feel they are winning. Please hear the words from our God and Saviour. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6). He is our way there is no other. Blessed are they who take refuge in the Lord.
“Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel. Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.” (Psa.2:5-12)
We truly do wait on the Lord.
