For Such a Time as This
Many years ago I would listen to Christian music back and forth on my way to work and home again. One song that made an impression on me was a song by Wayne Watson called “For Such A Time As This”. You can find this song on YouTube. Here are the words to the chorus from Wayne Watson – For Such a Time as This Lyrics | Lyrics.com
For such a time as this
I was placed upon the earth
To hear the voice of God
And do His will
Whatever it is
For such a time as this
For now and all the days He gives
I am here, I am here
And I am His
For such a time as this
At the time I did not realize these words came from this chapter in the Book of Esther. I just thought that they were very meaningful. Occasionally I sing this song when I am walking my dog and think of the words and what they mean. What I find interesting is that I have heard this phrase a number of times lately by Christian speakers. We are living in a very uncertain and confusing time and a lot of people are living in fear and that is why they are so easily submitting to the worldly solutions. They will do anything to stop their fear. Unfortunately, that path will not give them the peace they want and could actually cause them a lot of harm and maybe even death. I think as a Christian that is why to me these words are so good. God made us and has put us here on this earth for such a time as this. It is no accident that we are here now. We are here because He wants us to be here now. If He has chosen us for this time, then He knows we will be strong enough to get through this time of trouble, that has never been experienced before. The song says, “To hear the voice of God and do His will”. That should be our focus. If we do His will then we know that we are safe. God has trusted us to live in this time and place! When you really think about it of all the times past that we could have been born He chose us to be alive NOW, for such at time as this!
Esther 4:11 tells us that anyone coming to the king in the inner court would be put to death unless the king held out the golden sceptre. We see why Esther was hesitant to go before the king on behalf of her people. Then in verses 13-14 we have Mordecai’s plea re: for such a time as this. In Esther’s case, Mordecai had to convince her to overcome her fear and do God’s will and help them. “Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king’s house, more than all the Jews. For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” She was the only one that could get close enough to the king to help them and she did. This is our time to be an Esther, to overcome our fear and do God’s will. Hebrews 4:16 says, “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” We may often feel that we are unworthy of God’s trust in us to help Him but with His help we will have courage we never knew we had. Our faith in Him helps us to trust Him to guide us through any circumstance that develops. We must consider what it says in Hebrews 4 and go boldly to the Throne of Grace to ask for God’s help for our/God’s people at this time. We know that the sceptre is in the Lord’s hand and He will not forsake us. He is counting on us to be His faithful witnesses. For such a time as this. “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.” (Isa. 60:1-2). “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” (Rom. 8:14-18).
He graced us with the opportunity to be born at this time! Don’t put your light under a bushel.
