Draw Nigh to God
There is nothing so satisfying to the soul as the comforting presence of God. Yet, it is something that so few Christians seem to enjoy.
True, none of us can say that we have never felt the warmth and joy of His presence. We have all at one time or another felt His presence. If at no other time, we certainly felt it at conversion.
But how many of us can say that we live in this blissful state? If we are indeed His people, then we should experience the joy of His presence on a regular basis, shouldn’t we? “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” Psalms 16:11
Yet, so many of God’s people are sorrowful and despondent. There is no passion and there is precious little faith. They just barely make it through the day. What might once have been a raging fire in their soul has dwindled down to a mere smoldering ember about to give up its final wisp of smoke and die.
Dear reader, is this you?
If so, let me exhort you to take our text to heart, and draw nigh to God at once. Waste no time. Seek His face in haste. Enter your prayer closet and stay there until you have touched heaven. There is a prize awaiting those who persevere and do not faint, for His Word assures us that if we will make the effort to draw nigh to Him, He will of a certainty draw nigh to us.
He desires to bless us. He desires to commune with us. But we are so distracted by the daily cares of our lives that many of us have let the one most important relationship we will ever have fall by the wayside. Oh! such a sad state!
There is only one remedy for such an unhappy state of spiritual drought, and that is, “Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.”
Do not be offended that I should again quote the above text. If we do not feel His presence, there is a reason. Our sins are what hinder us, and we would do well to admit it. Let us cleanse our hands and let us purify our hearts – and let us not be double-minded, but rather, let us be resolute. Joy unbounded and refreshing revival await if we would but seek His presence and not grow weary in our pursuit until we have attained the goal.
“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. And I will be found of you, saith the Lord ….” Jeremiah 29:13-14
Amen! God help us so to do!
