Are We Waking Up?
Are we beginning to understand that we live in evil times? Are we starting to see that the people we thought were doing the best for us are doing just the opposite? Are we starting to wake up and to realize we are in trouble? I am writing this article at the very end of January 2022 and a large convoy of truckers and others along with them have been travelling across Canada starting in Victoria, British Columbia travelling to our capital in Ottawa, Ontario. Others are coming from the Maritime Provinces on the east coast through Quebec to Ottawa. Others are coming from the Northwest Territories and another number are also coming up from the United States, including those joining in coming down from Alaska (a large number of US truckers expected). All told, they think there will be about 50,000 Canadian truckers and over one million people in Ottawa on January 29th. This is the longest convoy in recorded history at 70 km or 45 miles long. This is no “small fringe” as Prime Minister Trudeau has referred to it! Along the way thousands of people have lined the highways cheering on these truckers and others in the convoy. It brgan as a protest over the vaccines but has grown into much more. People are tired of the never-ending mandates and rules that continue to go on when they were told that if they just obeyed what the health advisors were telling them to do, it would all be over soon. This has not happened, and many people have lost their livelihoods, incomes and businesses. People are isolated from each other and families and friends are at conflict with each other. There are so many more issues that it is hard to name them all, but just to say that our nations are in trouble.
This is largely a spiritual problem, as we have lost our fear of the Lord which is our strength and we have become weak and defenceless. Just a note, the word wisdom is mentioned in the King James Bible 222 times. We are in the year 2022 (222), could this be significant? In biblical numbers 22 means light. Are we going to finally wise up? Are we finally going to understand what is happening and turn back to the Lord? “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” (Prov. 1:7) Of course many will continue to remain foolish but during the time of the convoy travelling across Canada, especially in the middle of winter, there has been an outpouring of love and respect and unity that many were afraid had disappeared in our nation. There has been much prayer along the way and many Christian groups have been supporting them along the way. A lovely group of Hutterite ladies came out to feed the truckers in Manitoba but weren’t allowed to get close to them, so they travelled further along the way in order to be able to feed them. Amazing! It has brought many to tears, including myself at these acts of kindness. They are so grateful that someone is standing up for them.
At the time of this article, we have no idea what will happen at the end when they reach Ottawa but this group cannot be ignored. It has lit a spark under us Canadians and our American brethren and I believe God may be using the Holy Spirit to revive us and quicken our hearts to come back to Him. It has been an emotional time for us in Canada and I agree with them for at least they are doing something to try and help us Canadians who have felt hopeless for the last two years. We may not know the result of this right now but as a minister, Dr. Dharius Daniels, said in a sermon he gave recently, “Life is lived forward but only understood looking back”. As we move forward, we will hopefully look back and realize this changed everything! Right now, I am so proud to be a Canadian. Is the Lord preparing us for the next phase of His plan? Is He using this event to awaken us to trust in Him? We are strong when we are with the Lord. Hallelujah!
“Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.” (Prov. 9:9-10)
Editor’s note: Here it is January 29th, and I am reviewing this fine article for inclusion in the March magazine. But I have to add this. This morning I had to drive across Vancouver on business and it was like a snail’s pace. The amount of traffic was unbelievable as vehicles were driving with lights flashing and horns blaring in honour of those truckers and others who drove across Canada to Ottawa to basically say, “Enough is enough”! And on many of the intersections, crowds gathered to yell, “We want our freedom back”. Later on another trip, another crowd and a couple of revised lines of western singer Johnny Paycheck’s song, “Take these mandates and ……., we ain’t taking them no more”.
Freedom is a wonderful thing; most Canadians miss it already.
