A Servant People
“But thou, Israel, art my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend.” (Isaiah 41:8)
In God’s plan of the ages He chose a people to be His SERVANT nation. They were to be a distinct and separate people, living their lives for God. It was through these people that “all the families of the earth would be blessed ”. All those who came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, would become the children of Abraham by faith. “And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise”. (Gal. 3:29). This is an unconditional promise. There were no conditions placed on this promise. It was a covenant that God made with Abraham in which His servant, Abraham, had no choice. God chose him and blessed him and his descendants. God’s purpose was to be fulfilled through His servant people. The omnipotent, holy God does nothing on a whim or by accident. He has a plan.
In Deut. 33 Moses blesses the children of Israel. He gave a wonderful blessing to the tribe of Joseph in Deut. 33:13-17. “And for the precious fruits brought forth by the sun, and for the precious things put forth by the moon, And for the chief things of the ancient mountains, and for the precious things of the lasting hills, And for the precious things of the earth and fullness thereof, and for the good will of him that dwelt in the bush: let the blessing come upon the head of Joseph and upon the top of the head of him that was separated from his brethren. His glory is like the firstling of his bullock, and his horns are like the horns of unicorns: with them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth: and they are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they are the thousands of Manasseh”. The tribes of Joseph, Ephraim and Manasseh, was to be wonderfully blessed by the Lord. Through these blessings on the tribes of Joseph, “the people to the ends of the earth” would see the wonder of the Lord and would want to know Him. For a time the tribes of Ephraim (Britain and the Commonwealth) and Manasseh (USA) received all of these blessings in abundance. The Word of God was spread throughout the world and missionaries went to all corners of the earth. Now we see a great falling way. We are following after other gods and we have lost our light. We are no longer behaving as a servant people. We have become arrogant, boastful and disobedient. We have given away the great heritage that God gave us. Large corporations now have control over our lands and we have let them take away our heritage. We are blinded to our responsibility to God who gave us all of these wonderful blessings. Through His blessings to us the whole earth would be blessed and the earth is now suffering as well. We have abandoned our responsibilities and have greedily taken all of these blessings thinking that somehow we deserve them!
The good news is that this Covenant (promise) that God made with His SERVANT people is an unconditional promise. He will only let us go so far down the road to destruction before He opens our eyes and lets us see what we have done. “Among the many promises concerning the whole house of Israel and their world wide power there is one special prophecy that has to do with the moment in which we live. It is this:’… and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.’ Dan. 12:7. The present crumbling of the British Commonwealth and Empire, together with the dreadful weakening of the power of the United States of America, is definitely foretold in scripture and is one of the principal signs that we are at the end of the age when all things shall be finished.” (The Abrahamic Covenant by G.R. Hawtin). Although we will not go altogether unpunished God will have mercy upon us.
God will save us out of our great falling away. We must be sure that we are ready to hear His voice. “And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.” (Isa. 65:24).
Individually I believe there is a great need at this time for each one of us to humble ourselves before God. We must try to help and encourage each other. These are very stressful times and we need each other. If we don’t help and pray for each other who will? We must take our minds off of ourselves and be servants to each other. God has called us to be a SERVANT people! We must show the world that we are children of God. We must keep these passages in mind.
“We know that we have passed from death unto life because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.” (1John 3:14).
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” ( Rom. 12:1-2).
