God’s Wrath
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them.” Rom. 1:18-19)
There appears to be an attitude today that God is all about love and forgiveness and so when you mention God’s wrath people look at you as if you are crazy. Of course God is Love and He does forgive us our sins if we REPENT and ask for forgiveness through Jesus Christ our Lord. When we deny God’s wrath we are denying what Jesus Christ did for us on the Cross. We are denying the holiness of God. It is because He loves us and wants to forgive us that He is full of wrath when we turn away from Him and deliberately disobey Him and continue to sin. I believe He is especially upset with the Christian Church today and Israel believers who know the truth and who know God’s Word but suppress these truths and continue in our wickedness. (Rom. 1:18-19 as shown above). We are turning away from God and doing our own will and not God’s will. Therefore we incur the wrath of God. This happens both on an individual and national level. When we do not worship God and do not desire Him to be Lord over us we are subject only to our own desires and lusts. We are on our own!
When we are on our own we end up making our own gods because it is in our nature to worship something. If we deny God and refuse to worship Him then something else takes His place. “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.” (Rom. 1:22-25) We make our own images to worship. These images may be money, sports figures, movie and TV stars, rock stars, the government, material possessions, etc. God then gives us over to our own choices and their logical conclusions. “Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: …For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: … And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;” (Rom. 1:24,26,28). He does not attack us instantly but lets us wallow in our own sin and its outcome. I think we have all probably experienced this at some point in our lives. Our own foolish actions result in a painful conclusion in one way or another and often not just to ourselves but to others as well.
The current condition of our world and especially the condition of our Israel nations is directly a result of our disobedience to God and we are experiencing the results of this disobedience. God’s wrath is upon our nations. He blessed us with an abundance of prosperity and safety and we abandoned Him. We have turned our backs on Him and worshipped other gods. When will we learn? We have lost that awesome fear of the Lord as our Creator and therefore we have no wisdom and understanding of who He is. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.” (Prov. 9:10) We are being destroyed by our spiritual bankruptcy. We have become fools. “Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,” (Rom. 1:21-22). They love their own little gods so much they want no part of the Living God. Those that turn away from God and his truth are deceiving themselves and do not even know they are unrighteous and will perish. God’s wrath is upon them for turning away from His truth and His salvation. He therefore sends them a delusion and they believe the lie and fall into their own destruction. “And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:” (2Thess. 2:10-11).
God’s judgment is upon all those who refuse to believe in Him and His truth. They walk down their own path and say they want nothing to do with Him. This path is leading them to destruction unless they REPENT and TURN FROM THEIR IDOLS. They are under God’s wrath unless they do this!
“And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them? Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the Lord will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols; That I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols. Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.” (Eze. 14: 2-6)
