Words of Wisdom
“Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.” Joel 1:3
Quote: “A wise nation preserves its records, gathers up its muniments, decorates the tombs of its illustrious dead, repairs its great structures, and fosters national pride and love of country, by perpetual references to the sacrifices and glories of the past.”
Editor on quote: The French historian Toquerville said of America, and it could have as easily been said of other Israel nations, that “America is great because America is good” then added “If America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great”. I think the writer could have added, “A wise western nation holds to its God and its Christian values”. In 1948, when I believe this quotation was coined, true Israel nations were still “somewhat good” but the years since have seen us sink into shamelessness, as we have all but abandoned the Almighty God, Jesus Christ and our theologians have preached a watered down version of the truth. It’s interesting that Joel 1:3 is quoted with the above quotation, although not really in the context Joel intended. But, just like the swarm after swarm of locusts covered the land of Israel and wiped out crops, through Joel, God is warning, “Has anything like this [think of the present] ever happened before?” True Israel today is beset by swarm after swarm of non-Christians coming to our country and whether it is politics or political correctness, our nations have been irreversibly changed, as our God is being denigrated day in and day out. Ezekiel 7 emphasizes the punishment in verses 3-4 and the sad decline in verses 22-23, “My face will I turn also from them [Israel] and they shall pollute my secret place; for the robbers shall enter into it and defile it. Make a chain: for the land is full of bloody crimes, and the city is full of violence.” In a passionate plea, Joel is imploring Israelites to return to God. And just as Ezekiel shouted, “An end is come, the end is come”, in Joel 2:1, Joel warns everyone to tremble because the judgment day of the LORD is coming very quickly. We had better brace ourselves for a tumultuous end of the age.
