Pestilence Upon Us
“For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there shall be famines and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.” (Mathew 24: 7)
In this 21st century the Israel people appear to have completely forgotten our God (Jehovah). Instead, we have substituted a man made world that totally ignores our history or if history is even mentioned, it has been altered to reflect the view of the day. Whatever is politically correct at the time!
As I see it, people are going from day to day trying to survive without putting very much thought into what is really happening in this world. They do not put much, if any, thought into where this world is heading and what is causing all of our problems. I guess as long as they can have their beer and watch their sports they don’t really care.
This is a sad commentary on what we have become. I fear greatly for the world when the current generation of elderly people is gone. We will then have lost our history. This generation of the elderly saw the two great world wars, lived through the depression and the stock market crash of 1929. History has proven that when a nation forgets her past she is doomed to make the same mistakes. We have forgotten our God and our past and are now suffering the consequences. We have become too comfortable and think we have it all. We have said, ‘Who needs God?’
Could we soon be in for a change? I recently heard about the Flu Pandemic of 1918, the so-called Spanish Flu. Within a year 20 to 40 million people around the globe were dead. It made the death toll of World War I pale in comparison. Unlike most illnesses, the flu was spread through the air. The exact cause was never identified and it disappeared as quickly as it appeared. Ann Reid is a molecular biologist and lead author of a study by the U.S. Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. According to her, they had analyzed a critical gene from the killer virus and the gene was probably “adapting in humans or in swine for maybe several years before it broke out as a pandemic virus”.
Could this happen again? Who knows, but to me it seems there are reasons to believe it could. Today we have the so-called Super Bugs that are appearing almost daily. A headline in the October 9th Vancouver Courier newspaper says “Nasty” Flu Virus On The Way.” Today, animal parts, especially from the swine, are being used in humans for all sorts of reasons. Our food is being Genetically Modified (GMO’s), which means it is being crossed with unlike foods to make it last longer and supposedly fight off pests. We no longer know what we are eating and what the future consequences will be of eating this food. Today it is almost impossible to avoid GMO’s. I believe this is serious and will greatly compromise our immune systems. We are experiencing severe drought conditions in many areas of the world where food is grown. This will also have a huge impact on the future quality of our food. If or when a Super Bug appears that cannot be stopped by antibiotics, how many people could be affected? Most people today live in cities and the bug is spread by air so any number of people could easily be affected. The Flu Pandemic of 1918 did not just afflict children and the elderly. It greatly affected healthy 15–40 year olds as well.
As I see it, our world is out of control. It is time for us to turn back to our God. Israel has forgotten her God and we are suffering the consequences. What will it take to bring us back to the God of our Fathers? I believe the time is shortly coming when our eyes will be opened and we will cry out to our Lord Jesus for his help in all that is about to come upon us.
Isaiah 65: 24 says, “And it shall come to pass. That before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.” God speed that day.
