Remember and Weep
What in the world is going to happen in Syria? It’s worrisome that a Bible prophecy about Syria has never yet been fulfilled in history. It is recorded in Isaiah 17:1, “The burden of Damascus.
Behold Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.” In talking to Pastor Alan Campbell in Northern Ireland, he believes this will happen before the final conflict and he points to Psalm 83 and Ezekiel 38 that fail to make mention of Syria. Certainly things are shaping up in the Middle East to bring about a conclusion of God’s Great Plan. For, sadly, more and more it looks like Israel and America are poised to intervene. But will it stop there this time or will the conflict be broadened through the intervention of Russia. Stratrisks.com recently ran an article, “Russia prepares for war in Syria” and begins “Russian Defense Ministry launched intensive training units for operations abroad, including in Syria.
Perhaps it’s time for our readers to reflect and remember the desolation of war, certainly our generation has seen it and understands its terrible legacy.
Still, we must bear in mind that we are God’s servant nation, although our generation has forgotten it. It most surely is a time to recall God’s salvation in time of trouble, because as it looks now, our generation will again have need of it. David wrote in Psalm 143:7-12,
7 Hear me speedily, 0 Lord: my spirit faileth: hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit.
8 Cause me to hear thy loving kindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.
9 Deliver me, 0 Lord, from mine enemies: I flee unto thee to hide me.
10 Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.
11 Quicken me, 0 Lord, for thy names sake: for thy righteousness’ sake bring my soul out of trouble.
12 And of thy mercy cut off mine enemies, and destroy all them that afflict my soul: for I am thy servant.
