A World In Crisis
The world indeed seems to be in great crisis. There are wars and rumours of wars, pestilences, drought and food shortages, and great earthquakes all over the earth. The world as we knew it seems to be slipping away. Sometimes all these problems remind me of what we used to say about ten years ago, that the troubles would come like a snowball. As it rolls down the hill it gets bigger and bigger. That seems to be what is happening now. Yes, we have had wars, drought and earthquakes before but not like this where they are all happening at the same time and the many earthquakes we are now having are no longer just minor tremors but great. “And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.” (Luke 21:11). The great earthquakes that we have had lately have caused great destruction to the land and the ones in Christchurch, New Zealand and off the east coast of Honshu, Japan actually moved the crust of the earth. This is amazing. The resulting tsunami from the Japanese earthquake was horrific and caused much destruction. These two earthquakes alone this year have cost tens of millions of dollars and great loss of life.
Since the beginning of the year the troubles in the Middle East seem to have exploded into violence and we are now at war with Libya. Another war! Who knows what will happen next. We are definitely heading into very difficult times.
Internally our Israel nations are having major problems. There appears to be no law in the land and violence is everywhere. Economically it is getting harder and harder for people to feed and provide housing for their families. Food is becoming very expensive as the weather and catastrophes in our lands play havoc with our food crops. We have indeed lost our way. We have let the foundations of our society crumble and fall and now the darkness is surrounding us.
Through all of this we must always remember that God is supreme and holy. He is in control and He knows all of these developments. “The Lord looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men. From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth. He fashioneth their hearts alike, he considereth all their works.” (Psa. 33:13-15). At this time we must ask God for wisdom. We need His guidance to get us through these difficult times. “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not and it shall be given him.” (James 1:5). We must show God our desire to follow Him and His path for our lives at this time. He will guide us and direct us if we would only ask.
Nationally our countries are in extreme danger. We have cast aside all of God’s laws, which gave us His protection, and we are now complaining because things are going so badly! We are such a stiff-necked people that we still don’t see the connection between abandoning His laws and the increase in our troubles. I pray that soon our eyes will be open to the wonder and glory of the one true God. When our enemies are surrounding us we need only call upon Him in repentance and He will help us. “Then shalt thou call, and the Lord shall answer, thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. (Isa. 58:9).
Our world is in crisis and it appears to be getting worse and worse. It is amazing to think of all that has happened since the beginning of this year and we are not even half way through the year yet. It is hard to imagine how anything could reverse the cycle we are now in. We live in a world that has grown smaller. All the new technology has made it so much easier to communicate all over the world. We have tied ourselves so closely to the economies of other countries that what affects them also affects us. As individuals we must be praying for our nations and our people. We must be in constant communication with God, as we need His instruction. We must pray for national and individual repentance. It is only through our heartfelt praise of our Lord and Saviour and our repentance that we will be saved from all that is to come. God will move heaven and earth to save His people when they cry out to Him for help.
Our world is in crisis and it appears to be getting worse and worse.
“In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears. Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth. There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it. He bowed the heavens also and came down: coals were kindled by it. He bowed the heavens also and came down: and darkness was under his feet. And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly; yea, he did fly upon the wings of the wind. He made darkness his secret place; his pavilion round about him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies. At the brightness that was before him his thick clouds passed, hail stones and coals of fire. The Lord also thundered in the heavens, and his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings, and discomfited them. Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered at thy rebuke, O Lord, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils. He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters. He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me. They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the Lord was my stay.” (Psa. 18:6-18).
