Hold Fast
We are living in a world today with so many conflicts and uncertainties that it is getting harder and harder to find peace, even in our own personal relationships. I find people are becoming more and more concerned with themselves and have an “it is all about me” attitude. I have personally experienced this myself numerous times lately and I find this troubling especially when it is supposed to be coming from Christians, although it is not acceptable in people in general. It is not all about us and our feelings and how we perceive things. We are supposed to support each other and hold fast to the Word of God which tells us to be kind to one another and we are to forgive them as they should be forgiving us when we mess up as we all do at times. Today people seem to want to hold on to grudges and dwell on them, which I find sad as this explains why we are in such trouble today. We cannot even talk to each other about differences of opinion, etc. What a sad, sad world we live in. When we build ourselves up in importance, we become proud and arrogant and do not think of the other person first. This should not be the way it is. When our Israel nations followed God and people had a relationship with Jesus, we cared about each other and tried to work things out but today people are so full of themselves that they don’t even want to try. “O what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive”. This phrase is from Sir Walter Scott’s poem Marmion. When we deceive ourselves or others and cannot communicate, everything becomes so tangled that it becomes impossible to fix.
Would you not say that is the case with the world today? We have abandoned our God and gone our own way and have weaved a web that is so tangled that it cannot be fixed. Everyone thinks that they are right and will not listen to anyone else’s opinion. They will also not admit that they are wrong and have no intention of correcting their mistakes. It can only get worse as this goes on. Those in control have weaved a web of lies and deceit so big that no one knows the truth anymore. The foundations of our wonderful nations have fallen, and we are being brought down with them. We live in a world full of darkness and spiritual ignorance. In most churches everything is preached except God’s Word and as we look to ourselves as more important than God, we are ignorant of the light of God shining through the darkness. “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. And they shall pass through it, hardly bestead and hungry: and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and curse their king and their God, and look upward. And they shall look unto the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness.” (Isa. 8:20-22). We must hold fast to our unflinching faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and remember him in everything we do. He is our light in this dark world. If we let go of Him we will be in the darkness too and will miss out on all that He has in store for us when He returns. “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33). Our nations are full of lies and deceit
