A Peek At The Royal Past
From deep in our archives, we discovered this old newspaper clipping taken in 1894.
It is indeed a rare picture and it depicts four generations of British Rulers. Queen Victoria, who reigned longer than any other British monarch, is holding Prince Edward, later to become the Prince of Wales, then Edward VIII. He subsequently abdicated in 1936 in favour of his brother, George VI, when the British Government refused him permission to marry a twice divorced woman. On Victoria’s right is her eldest son, who later became King Edward VII and beside him, his brother who succeeded him as George V, who was at the helm during the difficult years of World War One and the Great Depression.
