We Live In Confusing Times
We do live in confusing times. Everything seems to be upside down and completely opposite to the world we lived in only a few years ago. Things we used to be able to do quite easily have now become hard to do or even impossible to do. Many people I talk to complain about how they can’t get good service anymore when they need help or advice. Something that used to be so easy can now take hours or even days to handle. We have lost the values and willingness to help one another, which made our nations safe and comfortable to live in. There now seems to be confusion in what is right and wrong, what is acceptable and what is not, and where we are heading. It does not look good if we continue on the path we are currently on. We have allowed others coming into our lands to influence our beliefs and culture to the point that we no longer know what we believe and how to behave and therefore are ripe for the devil to work his evil agenda out into the world with no one to stop him.
Even as Christians we have become so divided and confused on what we believe that we flounder and disobey God and go our own way. I think that the Confession from the Book of Common Prayer expresses how we should be approaching God in our confession and our confusion while living in this evil world. The part where it says “there is no health in us” means we continually fight with our sinful nature. “Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred, and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against thy holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; and we have done those things which we ought not to have done; and there is no health in us. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare thou them, O God, which confess their faults. Restore thou them that are penitent; according to the promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of thy holy name. Amen.” How did we get to the place where this wonderful confession no longer has any meaning to so many of our people? We no longer worship, and praise God like we used to. Most people do not say grace before their meals or give thanks to Him for our many blessings. We mostly live in the world and give God our token prayers and thoughts. This is not enough. That is why we are living in confusion! God is not mocked! He is not the author of confusion, it is Satan, and he is having a great time right now influencing all God’s people, who are asleep, to follow him. We must wake up as time is short and things are getting much worse. It appears to me to be just like the time of Noah where evil abounded and violence ruled the land. Violence was one of major things that was happening in Noah’s time and look at the violence in our Israel lands today, with no justice for the victims. The same evil applies in Lot’s concern for the angels when he met them while he was sitting at the gate of Sodom. He pressured them to come into his house for their own safety. Evil men wanted to abuse them. Are we not living in the same evil times where our countries have lost their way and are corrupt and sin abounds? These evil and confusing times are overwhelming, and many are overcome with grief and despair. We must hold on to the promises, protection and guidance of our dear Lord and wait patiently for His direction. Just be ready as the time appears to be short! “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.” (1Cor. 14:33).
