Beware Of The Thief
The word ‘thief’ is mentioned in the King James Bible 28 times, and it is not in a good way.
Here are a few examples: “They are of those that rebel against the light; they know not the ways thereof, nor abide in the paths thereof. The murderer rising with the light killeth the poor and needy, and in the night is as a thief. The eye also of the adulterer waiteth for the twilight, saying, No eye shall see me: and disguiseth his face.” (Job 24:13-15).“Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.” (Matthew 24:42-44). “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.” (John 10:1).
These thieves are those wicked ones who do not know God and have become so arrogant and full of themselves that they think the world belongs to them and that they can control it. That is why there are a number of warnings to us to beware of the thief who comes to steal, kill and destroy. These thieves are controlled by the evil one (Satan) and do not care about others and they do what they want. They are living in a fool’s paradise thinking that they have it made, and all that the world can give is theirs to receive and enjoy. They think that they have no opposition to their plans. We are warned to beware of these thieves because they are liars, and the truth is not in them. If we believe their lies, we are in the dark and they work in the dark as thieves usually do. They think that their evil deeds are hidden in the dark but when there is light in the world there is truth, and the light reveals the truth. This light is the Word of God and those who believe in Jesus Christ, who is the Word, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.The same was in the beginning with God.All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.In him was life; and the life was the light of men.And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” (John 1:1-5)
These evil thieving people are trying to steal our identity, our values, and everything in life that is good, based on God’s foundations that we have believed and tried to live by. They are now being destroyed by these thieves, but their time is short. 1Thess. 5:1-3 is a warning to us and them, “But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.” These wicked ones think that they are living in peace and safety and that their evil plans are hidden, and they are safe, but God has a warning for us that these wicked ones will experience sudden and painful (to them) destruction, as in childbirth, which they are not expecting. The warning to us is that we recognize the seasons we are in and do not get caught unawares and be fooled by these thieves who want to destroy us along with them. Our light should be shining in this dark world where their evil plans are being laid out. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life, do not let these thieves steal that from you!
“Lead me, OLord, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face. For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee. But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. For thou,Lord, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.” (Psa. 5:8-12)
