Trust In The Lord
Trust is almost an unknown word these days. It is getting harder and harder to know who and what you can trust these days. The world has become a place of power games and lies and deceit that we have lost our trust in most of the institutions, associations, and groups that we used to feel were upright and trustworthy. Now more and more of them are showing their true colours and unfortunately even our churches have lost much of their credibility. What has happened to us? Mostly it is because we have lost our faith in God and His basic instructions on how to live. These instructions are written in the Bible. We now live in a world which seems to think that anything goes and there really aren’t any laws to prevent you from doing what you want! We have lost the foundations of our society and we are now paying for it as our nations are full of chaos.Psalm 11 says it exactly as it is today, “In the Lord put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain? For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart. If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?The Lordin his holy temple, theLord’s throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men. The Lord the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth. Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.For the righteous Lord loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.”
We must have wisdom in these times and put our trust in the Lord and not follow what the world is doing but follow what the Bible tells us to do. The world wants us to be afraid so that we will submit to whatever they tell us to do, but our trust is in the Lord not in the world and whatever rules they create. It is different if they are following God Laws and abiding by them but most of the time they are not and they are ruling through their own pride and arrogance. They have no wisdom and trust in their own devices. Proverbs 8:1-9 says, “Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice? She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths. She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man.O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things. For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips. All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them. They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.” I really liked all of what Proverbs 8 says about wisdom.
Our trust in the Lord motivates us to do the right things. If we lose our trust in Him it makes us vulnerable to make bad decisions because, as we know, Satan is forever trying to tempt us. Wealth, prosperity and wanting to belong are very enticing and can lead us astray as we put our efforts toward these things and not the things of God. We become foolish when we do not listen to what God is telling us. We must try to live our lives through the power of the Holy Spirit that is guiding us. We live in such exciting times and we must have wisdom and courage and keep our trust in Him strong. This will see us through all that is to come before His return. The minister at my church said that when Judgment Day comes, God will not have a list of the things we have done right and the things we have done wrong to judge us, but He will judge us on how much we trusted Him. I am not saying he is absolutely right but when you think about it, when you trust someone you obey them and will do anything for them. Is that not what we should be doing today for God, trusting and obeying Him? When we trust in the Lord we can have no fear of the world because He is our strength and He will protect us. “But the salvation of the righteous is of theLord: he is their strength in the time of trouble. And the Lord help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.” (Psa. 37:39-40)
Here are just a few more powerful verses from Proverbs 8:22-38 about wisdom which is sadly lacking today. “The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth:While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep:When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth:Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men. Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.” Wisdom was there right from the beginning!
