God Bless America?
Good day to each of you reading this column on God blessing our Israelite countries or is he and why should he? Let’s begin by having a couple of laughs.
Several churches were having problems with squirrels damaging their buildings. The Presbyterian church called a meeting to decide what to do about their squirrel infestation. After much prayer and consideration, they concluded that the squirrels were predestined to be there, and they should not interfere with God’s divine will.
At the Baptist church, the deacons met and decided to put a water-slide on the baptistry and let the squirrels drown themselves. The squirrels liked the slide and, unfortunately, knew instinctively how to swim, so twice as many squirrels showed up the following week, and soon ended up destroying the church.
But the Catholic church came up with a more creative strategy! They baptized all the squirrels and made them members of the church. Now the squirrels are only seen at Christmas and Easter.
Not much was heard from the Jewish synagogue. They took the first squirrel and circumcised him. They haven’t seen a squirrel since.
After many years of not going to church an elderly lady decides to go to her local service.
Although very poor and with worn-out clothing, she dressed in her best and headed out. As she approached the church, she saw all the people dressed in such splendor. Not a stain, not a rip or tear on any of their clothes. The preacher and deacons stood and welcomed people as they entered. Sheto walk up the stairs when one of the men stopped her and explained that they had a dress code. He explained that clothes must be pristine and sharp to show respect to the Lord and turned her away.
Dejected and embarrassed, she left and sat on a nearby bench, crying and composing herself, wondering why a church of God wouldn’t accept her. As she sat, God sat down next to her. He puts a comforting hand on her shoulder and says, “Don’t worry, they won’t let me in, either.”
The pastor asked a little girl why one should remain quiet in church. The little girl replied, ‘because everyone is sleeping.’
I hope you enjoy this bit of humor but, I would like to begin with this quote from well-known talk show host and comedian, Jay Leno. On one occasion he said, “With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, “Are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?” Think about this as you read my column and reflect on these days where wrong is right and right is wrong.
If you have been following my columns, you will notice that I often go to one of my most favorite chapters in the Bible, Deuteronomy 28.
Now, I love classic cars and trucks and have three beauties which I drive on various occasions. Not long ago, I had taken my truck in for service (and good luck finding a mechanic that can work on these American classics). Anyway, the mechanic, along with his wife, were talking about the problems that we face in America and that they hold church meetings on Sunday mornings at their business.
After giving me an estimate and a time the truck would be completed, I asked him (and his family) to turn to Deuteronomy 28 and give me their thoughts when I came back for the vehicle.
Returning a few weeks later, my truck was repaired and ready to hit the road again. As I paid the bill, I asked the pair if they had read Deuteronomy 28? Yes, and to my amazement they both said that they had never read anything quite like this in the Old Testament and they thought that this depicted America even though it was about the Israelites.
Bingo, the door was open and this watchman went to work under God’s direction. The words came out sharper than a two-edged sword by going over Israelite heritage and the blessings that God has supplied to our countries.
I began, spiritually, our Israelite countries are like clay that must be torn down and re-shaped. Individuals like you and I pray to God to mold us in His image and after His likeness, but we have no power in molding our country in that same image.
Let me illustrate— When the September 1939 World War occurred, millions of individuals prayed for peace and yet, they were not heard. Why, because individual prayers could not bring relief for the nation violating its national obligations.
How can God bless a nation if our people, including our leaders, do not keep the commandments, statutes and judgments that God provided us in Deuteronomy 28?
So, can God bless sin in any form whether it be from the individual or from the nation? How can we, as Christians, ask God to bless America when our country, based on the Biblical principles from the word of God and from our forefathers, continually breaks His commandments, statutes and judgments with no sign of repentance?
As we tear back the layers of the onion, we are to pray for our leaders and those we put in office, but we are to put men and women in office that love God by obeying the commandments, statutes and judgments that are written in the Final Authority, the Bible. If this is not the case, then those individuals should not go into office because America and her Israelite nations will continue to receive the curses that are talked about in Deuteronomy 28.
Jay Leno’s quote is to the point—Fellow Christian, pray for a Spiritual Awakening—I know you are out there and that together and only by observing God’s commandments, statutes and judgments can we make America great again.
Can it be done? Yes, and it is found in 2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV) “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land”.
May God bless you and you bless God daily and be thankful that He has given you the breath to continue your life for his glory.
