Whatever Happened, America? You Fell So Far, So Fast!
Let’s begin this month’s thought by travelling back seventy years ago to a time of great peace and prosperity. America had emerged from the Second World War and rightfully assumed the mantle as the greatest nation in history. In 1952, Dwight D. Eisenhower was elected president and for eight wonderful years presided over a time of peace and prosperity, probably unprecedented in history.
Sadly, at the same time, morals were changing, particularly the erosion of Christian values, although the enthusiasm of the decade seemed to disguise the evil forces working their blueprint for total control.
Still, there is no doubting that the opening lines of a poem penned by E. Jeffery summed up the greatness of America at the time, “Out of the past the present was born, With its benefits and grace”.
Indeed, the present in the early fifties was a great decade, it would be easy to write, “How great you became America”. Yet, America was destined to be great anyway, just consider Biblical prophecy. In case you’ve forgotten, Americans, let me refresh your minds.
The prophet Isaiah talked of a day that British Ephraim would lose you. Our patriarch Jacob foretold that you would become a great nation (Genesis 48: 19). Moses prophesied that your descendants would be punished for seven times (2,520 ears) for walking contrary to God’s commandments. And sure enough, exactly 2,520 years from your Manasseh descendants going into Assyrian exile in 745 BC, you declared your momentous Declaration of Independence in 1776 AD. You were the other that was lost to the British before they began their great colonization drive that created the imposing commonwealth or company of nations Jacob Israel prophesied. Yet, it was a clear signal toward your move to becoming the greatest nation the world had ever known. Along with your sister nation of Britain, Jacob boldly stated you would have the protection of the Lord God Almighty (Genesis 49:24) and over and over through your relative short history this has proven to be so. The prophet Isaiah said, “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper” (Isaiah 54: 17) and the prophet Jeremiah stated, “Thou art my battle ax and weapons of war.” (Jeremiah 51:20).
Perhaps a review of your wonderful Declaration of Independence document with these words, “When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume, among the Powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.” “A decent respect to the opinions of mankind!” What a wonderful statement. What a beginning you had, what promise you reflected. Above all, you had visionary leaders who understood what would make you so great. Men like George Washington who said, “It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and Bible.” Or Thomas Jefferson, who drafted the Declaration, and was the author of the words, “I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man.” And who can forget Patrick Henry’s words, “It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great Nation was founded not by religionists, but by Christians, not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Great men of vision followed them. President John Adams said this in 1821, “The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: it connected in one indissoluble bond the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity.” And what about the 50 states! Without exception, their men of vision acknowledged the Almighty God in their State Constitutions in one way or another.
Belief in the Almighty God, Jesus Christ, adherence to God’s Laws and Commandments, Christian principles – that’s why you were great, Americans. Look what the great French statesman, Alexis de Tocqueville, wrote in the 1830’s, “Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because America is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.”
Sadly, America was great. But that was then, and this is now. In this year of 2022, we can count almost seventy years when Eisenhower was elected president, actually, from his nomination in January 1953, the seventy years would encompass 2023. Seventy long years! America, indeed, all the Israel nations to an extent, have been on the slippery slope since that time, where the perceived morals of industry, government, professionals, community leaders and so on, have declined so steeply that even the blind can see that behind the decline there is such a love of money and power to the point where it is full steam ahead for those who pursue it.
Perhaps poet Jeffrey had it right when he further wrote the lines, “But what of the future, will it fall heir To a heritage as true? Or will we of the present, cease to share The dream that our forbears knew?”
So, what has been the future for America and Americans since 1952/53. And I suggest the slippery slope primarily began when over the past 70 years we have seen our Israel nations change from almost exclusively Christian nations to multi-religious countries, due primarily to non-Christian immigration. This is not to say there has not been much Christian immigration, for there has been and the vast majority of these non-Israelite Christians seem very devoted to the faith they were taught. But the non-Israelite, non-Christian immigration has slowly, but surely, resulted in our casting aside so much of our faith, including belief in and study of the Holy Scriptures. And sad to say, belief in the Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ.
A great concern for all Americans is that the nation has gone from the greatest creditor nation in the world to the greatest debtor nation and that has led to higher taxes, interest rates and cost of living. At the time of this writing, inflation is higher than at any time since the Carter years and threatens so much of the economy and living conditions for Americans.
So, how is this going to play out? We know there is a massive number of people in America on some sort of government entitlement and probably very little to fall back on. We know the debt is rapidly becoming unsustainable. We know that other nations the Bible describes as enemies of America, indeed, True Israel, are becoming more belligerent, as they perceive weakness. In fact, this is perhaps the greatest concern of all, notwithstanding political leanings, since the present government took power in early 2021, We know that the war on Christianity is in full swing. We know that many of our leaders are on the side of evil. And we know the demands made by followers of false religions in our midst are adding to our weakness and the security offered by our place with the Almighty God. Worst of all, by not standing up for Jesus Christ, we are cowed and day by day, simply go along this path of evil.
And so, we are at the greatest peril of our short histories.
Earlier, I mentioned the seventy years from both 1952 and 1953. And in previous magazines, I wrote about the seven prophetic hours. Interesting that the sixth prophetic hour expired in 2008 and in that 15-year period, so much difficulty took place, including the confiscation of at least a trillion dollars of the Americans’ money to give to the big banks. And it was speculated that sometime in the seventh prophetic hour the unscrupulous rich, along with the evilness of the economic side of Mystery Babylon, will collapse.
I can’t complete this article with a mention by Evangelist Ed. F. Vallowe, the renowned student of Biblical Mathematics. He pointed out that seventy is the number connected with God’s punishment of Israel for her disobedience. And when you look at the evil events of the slippery slope, you can well appreciate that God has punished True Israel over the seventy years. But there is an encouraging aspect to the seventy years period. Seventy also stands for “Israel and Her Restoration” so perhaps in 2023, at the end of the seventh prophetic hour, we shall experience what Israelites experienced when Babylon was overthrown (Jeremiah 25:11)
