Strong Delusion

“And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. But we are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (2Thess. 2:11-14)

Jesus, I often wonder as Christians who we believe we are? In our Israel nations the backbone of our society and our culture was based on Bible truth, its laws and commandments and the love of our fellow man. I know many would think that’s obvious but in our Christian nations today, Britain and the Commonwealth of nations, the USA and the other Israel nations, we are abandoning all of the things that made our countries great and we don’t seem to care. The churches are mostly silent and just go along with what they are told to do and what the people want. Where is their submission to Jesus Christ? He is the one we are supposed to obey first above all others. Are we in this strong delusion that the above verses are talking about? I think so.

I believe that we have lost our awareness of the power and majesty of the God we serve and worship. Dr. J.I. Packer in his book “Knowing God” says that majesty refers to greatness and respect, as in our respect for Her Majesty the Queen. The KJV Dictionary Definition: MAJ’ESTY, n. L. majestas, from the root of magis, major, more, greater. “1. Greatness of appearance; dignity; grandeur; dignity of aspect or manner; the quality or state of a person or thing which inspires awe or reverence in the beholder; applied with peculiar propriety to God and his works. Jehovah reigneth; he is clothed with majesty. Ps.93.; The voice of Jehovah is full of majesty. Ps.29”. Dr. Packer goes on to say that although we have a personal relationship with God, that does not limit Him in His greatness and power. He is always there for us and aware of our troubles in this world. I think we have generally lost this feeling of awe and greatness when it comes to our God. We have put Him in a box and think His power is limited. We think that because we are made in His image that He is similar to us in a lot of ways, just more powerful. We are so deluded.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.”
(Isa. 55:8)

This strong delusion that is encompassing our nations and the whole world blinds us to this awesome God we worship. Psalm 139 speaks of the everlasting presence and power of God. These few verses (vs. 7-10) express some of it well; “Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.” This psalm shows in the words of C.H. Spurgeon, “the omniscience and omnipresence of God”. Good article here by Spurgeon on this whole psalm, Psalm 139 Bible Commentary – Charles H. Spurgeon’s Treasury of David (christianity.com). We cannot be churchy Christians that “go with the flow so to speak” and expect God to accept us. We cannot be like the chaff who will burn in the fire, “John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire: Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.” (Luke 3:16-17). If we do not live daily with our Lord, we are in danger of falling under this delusion that is gripping our nations. If we do not have faith and trust in the Lord and His Word, we will accept anything we are told and will not investigate it to see if it fits in with what God’s Word says. There are many out there who are not under this delusion and are fighting for Jesus Christ and He knows who you are. We must keep up the work we are doing for Him and warn others of the times we are living in. If they don’t want to hear then that is up to them, but we have warned them and unfortunately they will have to suffer the consequences. I do believe that some are searching today as they can see things are not right so we must be ready to speak to those who do question what is happening. God has a plan for all of us and we must hear that “still small voice” that Elijah heard in 1King 19:12. His voice will speak to us and direct us. We are His Servant People, and we must obey Him when He calls us and therefore we must not be under any delusion but be ready!

“Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle. Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.” (2Thess. 2:15-17)
