The Land of Need
In the iconic TV series `The Avengers’, Patrick Macnee’s character, John Steed, would at the beginning of the programme, often address Diana Rigg by stating, on hearing of some calamity or mystery, “Mrs. Peel, we’re needed”. Readers, are you needed? – by Almighty God, for essential work in His Kingdom. Barbara Streisand and many others would often give voice to the line, “People who need people are the luckiest people ln the world”. Is this true? The Beatles and those who came after asked, “Will you still need me …. when I’m 64”. Well, here I am, still here, ten years on at 74 and hopefully, still being needed by our wonderful Lord. Is He saying to all of us in the dwindling Christian Movement, “Now, there is even a greater need and much more work for you to do”?
Why did Almighty God create this universe in which we dwell? Did He need to? Wouldn’t it have been much easier to just repose in the glorious celestial sphere surveying undiluted perfection? Did not the Eternal state that He made man in His (Our) image? Surely not in our present parlous condition, but how we were before the Fall. What a paradise that must have been, and it is to this state that we unconsciously and consciously desire to return. Was God lonely! Or is it that the very essence of Life is Creation (of some sort), and that without Creation, there ls no real life. Did not even Our Lord Jesus Christ proclaim that he had come that we should have life more abundantly?
To go back to our previous supposition, “Was Jesus Christ lonely?” Well, I think that he was very lonely, with only the loyal angels to give him comfort. Certainly, even his own hand-picked disciples did not (before His Resurrection) understand him, even on occasions when some aspect of teaching had already been explained. I believe each one of us, who is truly a follower of Christ, is experiencing to some degree the loneliness that Jesus felt, because the world is so hostile to us and we feel isolated and cut off from all that is real and solid. How Jesus must have longed for someone to relate to whilst on Earth and yet there was no-one completely up to the task. What an eternity his short incarnate life must have seemed. And what a bitter and tragic end, persecuted and condemned by utter wanton hypocrites. “He saved others, himself he cannot save”, they mocked and every good deed that he carried out was traduced as being wicked and against their abominable traditions, the traditions of Babylon, that is; see `The Babylonian Talmud’ to give it it’s full title.
How little do we value those who have benefited mankind, so often they are sidelined and ignored, whilst the effervescent ephemera is granted a totally undeserved adoration? The world ln which we live is governed by illusion and delusion, words closely associated with glamour and image. It worships at the shrine of man-made global warming, gender fluidity, abortion on demand and creating a drug-dependent humanity. This by employing such devices as impossible equality, malicious envy, arrested development (Climbing down) arid selective indignation.
Our demonic lords and masters wish to plunge us into a state of total impotence, where all free-will has been taken from us, as well as free thinking and feeling. They want us to worship the satanically inspired State; “I believe ln the State, the whole State and nothing but the State”, they opine. Jesus Christ said that if you know the Truth, the Truth will set you free. In the excellent film made about King Arthur and his knights (Excalibur, directed by John Doorman), Arthur asks Merlin, what is the greatest quality of all, and he answers, “Truth, that’s it, Truth”. Not love or peace, but truth. For without Truth, no other quality can truly exist.
Here then ls our quest for Truth. Winston Churchill once said that most men when they stumble upon Truth, pick themselves up and carry on their way as though nothing has happened. In the Old Saxon language, the word for need' isnod, similar in pronunciation to the Land of Nod. Is this an indication of the state of being which exists outside of the protection of the Almighty? The Garden of Eden was a place where all was provided. And how this was unappreciated by the original dwellers, who had everything that they needed. Satan induces us to concentrate on our so-called needs which are usually wants. “What do we want”, cry the political protesters, not what do we need. Only by spending time in prayer and study and quiet reflection can we be covered by the “all of understanding”, the key to wisdom and quiet confidence.
Jesus said “Seek ye first the Kingdom of Heaven and all these (other) things shall be added unto you”.
