An Enduring Dynasty
‘And what shall I more say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae: of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets. Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions…. ‘ (Heb: 11:32-33)
Hebrews chapter eleven takes us through a kind of gallery of faith, briefly introducing us to the various characters throughout the Bible, who, ‘by faith’ believed and trusted in the Lord God, and whose example we would do well to follow.
Of these Biblical ‘hero’s’, let us consider King David and the links with both Our Lord Jesus Christ, and our Royal Family here in Great Britain, Northern Ireland, and the Commonwealth. For this connection is both important and vital to our understanding of world events, both today and in the near future.
The name ‘David’ means ‘beloved of the Lord’, and so we see that the Lord God had a soft spot for David, and indeed he, along with Abraham, is surely one of the most prominent people in the history of our world. For God made particular Covenants with these two men, and they were key players in the creation of the whole nation of Israel, especially selected by God – for His purpose.
Of David’s actual birth and mother we know no details, only of his lineage. In fact the first we hear of David is just before his anointing by Samuel: ‘And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remained yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither. And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the Lord said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he. ‘ (1 Sam: 16:11-12).
Our Bible tells us that Samuel then took the horn of oil and anointed David in the midst of his brethren – and that the Spirit of the Lord came upon him from that day onwards.
David was a shepherd boy, and of a beautiful countenance. He must also have been of a good stature, because king Saul was very tall, and he offered David the loan of his armour to fight Goliath!
He became a great warrior and military leader. His first battle – with Goliath – was however, with a sling and a stone. He picked up 5 smooth stones, but only needed one to bring down this giant – symbolic surely of Daniel’s vision of the great image being brought down by the Stone Kingdom.
He did, however, commit one great sin, whereby he engineered the death of Uriah, the husband of Bath-Sheba. The Lord used Nathan to confront him, and David repented unto the Lord. But the first child Bath-Sheba bore died because of this sin. However, to show that the Lord forgave him, a second child was born – Solomon, who became heir to David’s throne, and whom the Lord loved.
But David’s throne is much more than a throne of earthly kings and queens. Remember that the Israelites had demanded Samuel give them a king like the heathen nations. And God granted this desire – but not for their wishes, rather for His Glory, and unfolding plan. The throne of David is described in 1 Chronicles 29:23 as: ‘… the Throne of the Lord…’
So, the throne of David, of the House of Israel, is the Throne of the Lord. It is not spiritual, it is a real, physical throne, which still exists to this day. ‘For thus saith the Lord: David shall never want a man to sit upon the Throne of the House of Israel… ‘
‘Thus saith the Lord: If ye can break My covenant of the day, and My covenant of the night, and that there should not be day and night in their season: Then may also My covenant be broken with David My servant, that he should not have a son to reign upon his throne…’
‘Thus saith the Lord: If My Covenant be not with day and night, and if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth: Then will I cast away the seed of Jacob, and David My servant, so that I will not take any of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob: for I will cause their captivity to return, and have mercy on them. (Jer: 33:17,20,21,25,26).
There have been times in the history of the Throne of David when no king sat upon it – but there was nevertheless an heir apparent, and the Royal Line was carried through. We know also that the two seed lines that emanated from the twin sons of Tamar and Judah: Pharez (from whom David was descended), and Zara, (of the Scarlet thread), became joined with the transference of the Throne from Jerusalem to the British Isles. Also, in more recent times when King Charles 1st was beheaded for treason, the Throne had no king sitting upon it – but there was an heir. And there will always be until Our Lord returns.
Our Queen, Elizabeth, now 95, is a remarkable woman, and we should remember that at her coronation she was anointed of the Lord. Has anyone else since that time been thus anointed? Will Prince Charles become king, and if so, similarly anointed, or will it all be a multifaith and watered-down affair? Or will our Lord step in at that time?
The passing of HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, was the end of an era. He was a remarkable man, and also of Royal lineage, being descended from both Queen Victoria and of the Danish Royal Line. He will be sorely missed.
And it is interesting that when the role of Sovereign fell upon the then Princess Elizabeth, she and her husband were staying in ‘Treetops’, a house built into a fig tree in Africa. A reminder of the prophecy relating to the ‘tender twig’ (Tea Tephi) cropped from a cedar, and transferred (the Davidic Line) to the Isles of the West!
And so, it is truly a case of ‘what will happen now?’ Her Majesty may go on for a few more years, and we pray she will. We do know that the name Elizabeth, is a very special name. If you take the first two letters, and place them after the last four, you have ‘beth-el’ and that is ‘house of God’. Truly she embraces the house of God for she is sitting upon His Throne.
Always remember this! We are living in momentous times and there is no doubt but that events are moving very quickly. The Anglo-Saxon-Celto peoples are literal descendants of the Children of Israel, and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and her family, are descended from the House of David, which is the House of the Lord. We belong to HIM.
Meanwhile Satan is doing his very best to destroy us all, including our planet – and especially all that pertains to be peculiar to the Lord. But the Lord is not mocked, so watch this space, trust God – and see the Glory and Wonder of the Lord begin to take effect!
