Our Wonderful Immune System
“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” (3John 1:2)
Our wonderful God created us and meant for our bodies to be healthy. He did not mean for us to be constantly looking for ways to cure ourselves of sickness and diseases. We were meant to have a preventative and wellness approach to our health, not a constant cure for whatever is wrong approach. Of course, things do happen to us and we are thankful for the great things the medical system can do to help us. The problem is that most people seem to have forgotten the fact that we have a God given fantastic immune system, that if treated properly can keep us healthy most of the time. We do live in a fallen world and so are dealing with many outside influences that affect our health. I believe one of the biggest ones is stress. “Chronic stress and inflammation often go together, and are underlying factors in most chronic illnesses, including: cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, obesity, autoimmune disorders, Alzheimer’s, asthma, arthritis, and many types of cancer. The challenge here is that chronic stress and inflammation can take decades before the first symptoms appear of the diseases they either instigate or amplify. While research about the precise biochemical links between chronic stress and inflammation is ongoing, we do know that these two factors are big contributors to reduced immunity and the development of what are called “lifestyle disorders.”This relatively new term refers to those diseases that you have the power to prevent or heal through the choices you make about your lifestyle every day. As genetic researchers have discovered, only 5% of disease-related gene mutations guarantee that we will get a particular disease.” Chronic Stress and Inflammation: The Damage and What To Do About It – Garma On Health . It is hard to avoid stress today especially with the current COVID rules as most of us have had our lives changed dramatically by these rules.
I have listened to many talks on this whole subject in the last while and I believe one of the best ways for us to get through all of this is to remember to trust in God. He knows the beginning from the end and in His Word has given us the ways to keep our immune system strong. Of course, daily prayer is important and following the food laws that He gave us in Lev. 11 are extremely important, also our daily walk with Him to help control our fallen nature, which Satan continues to tempt us with. Other things that can help us boost our immune system are: (1) making sure we have enough Vitamin D3. This vitamin has been identified as being very important to many functions in our body and for us who live in the Northern climates or who must stay inside most of the day, we are likely low on vitamin D3. You may want to have this checked and take a supplement if you think you are low. (2) Vitamin C is also a must, as is Zinc, Vitamin A and selenium. If you can get a good Multivitamin these should all be in there. Some health doctors have also suggested taking Melatonin if you have trouble sleeping as a good sleep is so important for the body. (3) Adequate Magnesium and Potassium also help with sleep, and these too should be included in your multivitamin. I do take extra magnesium along with my multivitamin as it relaxes the muscles. Try to get Magnesium Bis-Glysinate Chelate as it is easy on the stomach. I have also used a few drops of lavender oil on a kleenex by my pillow to help me with getting to sleep. (4) Adequate daily exercise also helps us. A short walk every day especially in nature can boost our spirits and calm us down.
Today we are bombarded by so many different messages from the media with everyone telling us what we should be doing. This is not the way it should be. We should be listening to that still small voice that guides us every day when we are calm and communing with God. He is the way, the truth and the life. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6). In my own life I am trying not to think so much about what the world has in store for us right now but I am trying to take every day on its own and go from there. Using the Lord’s Prayer, “Give us this day our daily bread”, as an example. It is enough for me to handle. When we are quiet and stop listening to all the babble that is being shouted at us from everyone, we can figure out what is best for us. You and God alone know what is best for you, not some group out there who think they can tell everyone what to do with their body and we will automatically oblige. Try to keep yourself healthy. That is one of the best defenses against being controlled. “But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.” (2Pet. 1-2) Always remember that God loves you and wants you to be healthy. Conditions in the world today are such that we cannot always trust what we are being told. We belong to God and His ways are always the best. “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” (1Cor. 6:19-20)
Wishing good health to all of you.
