The 2020 America Presidential Election
Good day to each of you reading this article and my thoughts on the Presidential Election held in November 2020. I did go to the polls and voted, but I did not vote for either presidential candidate.
When asked to provide my thoughts, I was led to go back and review previous issues and I came upon the following Biblical quote in the December 2018 issue of Thy Kingdom Come wherein the Editor quoted Deuteronomy 8:17-18 (Smith & Goodspeed) ‘My own power and the strength of my own hand have gained this wealth for me.’ You must remember that it is the Lord your God who has been giving you power to gain wealth, that he might carry out his covenant which he swore to your fathers, as is the case today.
As I listened to each of the debates, President Donald Trump made it very clear that He created the “greatest economy” which is based on the gross domestic product and job numbers.
At no time did President Trump give any credit to God for the economic success in the past four years and instead of putting God first, it was the word “I”.
President Trump has made it known publicly that he never asked God for forgiveness because he could handle things himself and that when taking communion at church, he guessed that was a form of forgiveness and that he does that often as possible so he can feel cleansed.
On the other hand, Vice-President Biden has said he is pro-choice and will roll back several of President Trump’s administration’s changes to sexual and reproductive health programs and undoing a large portion of President Trump’s executive actions on abortion and women’s health. Vice-President Biden “firmly believes that Roe v. Wade is the law of the land and should not be overturned,” his press secretary told NBC last year according to Newsweek 10/6/2020.
It’s a telling detail. In turn, Catholic News Agency, in their news story on Biden’s election, pointed out the following: “Biden pledged during his campaign to roll back bans on foreign aid to groups promoting or performing abortions, and to rescind religious liberty protections enjoyed by groups who object to the federal contraceptive insurance mandate— both things that can be done by executive order. But the Biden campaign also pledged to enshrine abortion protection into federal law and to pass far-reaching gender identity protections into law — those measures will be unlikely to be enacted while Republicans control the Senate.”
Both the President and the Vice President would close with “And God Bless America”. Think about this for a moment—How can God Bless America? Why should God Bless America?
The evidence is clear—God has been told to leave by our government and neither man has even suggested to re-instate the wrongs of the past.
My mother always said God is a gentleman and was told to leave, so he did and so did his blessings and now we are left with the curses.
As I close, never forget 2 Chronicles 7:14, for this is the answer and may America bless God first and remember that it is the Lord your God who has been giving you power to gain wealth, that he might carry out his covenant which he swore to your fathers, as is the case today.
Editor’s Comment: As I read this thoughtful article, two things came to my mind. The first is the double witness to 2 Chronicles 7:14, that is, Hosea 5:15, where the Lord said, “I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence and seek my face ….” The second is my oft quoted remarks by the French historian, Alexis de Tocqueville, after his early 1800’s visit to America when he experienced the church pulpits flaming with righteousness. He was inspired to write, “America is great because America is good”. You see, Christ was the focal point of America in those days but it can’t be said for America (or any of the Israel nations) today; that’s why Tocqueville added, “If America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great”.
