The Sandbox

Good day to each of you reading this article on the sandbox and the subject at hand, which is two little boys playing in the sandbox, with only one toy. Each boy wants to play with that toy and neither boy wants to give up the toy to the other boy.

Let me set the stage, the first boy got into the sandbox with a shovel and began shoveling sand and making a castle. The second boy got in the sandbox and began playing in the sand with the first boy. Then, the second boy reached for the shovel so he could make a castle and was told, “No”, by the first boy.

The second boy began to pout, calling the first boy names and yelling that the first boy would not share. The two moms came out of the house and into the backyard to the commotion of both boys yelling at the top of their lungs, calling each other names, and saying things that were unkind and untrue to each other.

Both mothers took their individual child out of the sandbox to get control of the situation, but each child was still pointing fingers and calling each other names. Both moms finally got each child settled down and after fifteen minutes, the children returned to the sandbox to play with each other.

To their surprise, all was quiet for the next thirty minutes, as the boys played in the sandbox without a shovel. Then, looking over to the picnic table, there laid the shovel and one of the boys went over and picked up the shovel and began to build his castle. The other boy, looked at him and immediately destroyed the castle, calling him names and both boys began to verbally spar at each other.

Sad, but true, for the above story reminds of the debate here in the U.S.A. between the President and the Democratic challenger. Both men called each other names, traded nasty jabs, and turned the debate into a debacle.

I was born in the fifties and taught that the President was to be respected, and names of any type including “clown” were not to be spoken. When the news media interrupted regular programming or when the President spoke, our family listened intently.

Last night, was, well disgusting to the say the least. Interruptions were the norm, snide comments and behavior from both men acting like two little boys in the sandbox.

Where was the discipline? The commentator could not get control of the situation because of the backbiting, name calling, and snide comments from both men. But what does this have to do with God?

As a Christian, I listened intently to both either candidates and waited for either of them to glorify God – It did not happen—President Trump took all the credit for making the U.S.A. economy the strongest since the 19th century. President Trump takes all the credit for making America great again and yet he acts like a child who does not get his way on the debate stage.

Mr. Biden never mentioned God in any sense at the debate, but he made sure to call the President names, backbite, and tell the President to shut up. Mr. Biden sunk to the same level as the President, as the name calling began and they both “groveled in the mud like pigs”, trading snide comments and ugly jabs.

I am reminded of the following—Galatians 6:7—Do not be deceived; God is not mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Now, turn with me, to 1 Samuel 8:6-9 (NIV) But when they said, “Give us a king to lead us, “this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord. And the Lord told him: “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. As they have done from the day that I brought them up out of Egypt until this day. Forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will do.”

Here, in the U.S.A., we have had many “so called kings” in the 20th and 21st century, for this is what the American people wanted, but God never said what type of king they would be for the American people, who sadly are reaping what they sow, whether it be a “Good or Evil King”.

The two children in the sandbox last night is not indicative of past great statesman such as George Washington, John Adams, Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt.

George Washington was quoted as saying that America did not need a king and that he would not accept the position as king. It was clear last night that we need a statesman, a servant of God, and a person of character—not a child who throws a tantrum, trades nasty remarks and has no manners. Americans! Do you want a “king”? What we saw last night was embarrassing, ugly and appalling.

Let us pray to God for his mercy and for our people to heed the following: If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Only then, will America be great again and not until we humble ourselves, pray, seek God’s face and turn from our wicked ways.
