What Really Made America Great
The great slogan in America since the 2016 presential election has been, “Make America Great Again” and no matter what an American voter’s leaning, it must be admitted, no matter how grudgingly, that the Trump policies have given a tremendous boost to the nation’s and its citizen’s economic prosperity, their standing in the world and pride in their achievements.
Still, what about the America beyond these good things. For instance, the America of devastating political divisions that threaten to change the make-up of the nation and reverse the economic miracle. Or the America under invasion by illegal immigration; the America whose big cities are turning into cesspools; the America where violence is growing leaps and bounds and the America in constant danger of war. And we can’t overlook the natural disasters that are picking up tempo, most recently, floods, tornadoes, massive fires, hurricanes, etc.
Some might say, “Is America under judgment?” And if so, how long will the positive of economic prosperity prevail?
America does so much good around the world, so, such being the case, why would she be under judgment? There has got to be a reason! And, of course, there is! For the most part, America has abandoned the Lord God Almighty. And so, maybe God is abandoning America in turn. Is this impossible to believe? The Bible tells us in Hosea 5 that the ten tribes (Ephraim) were acting very much like America today and God had Hosea impart these words, “I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me early”. You see, Jesus Christ and His Laws and Commandments are what made America great in the first place. Don’t believe this? The consider what Alexis de Tocqueville discovered.
He was a French historian who began a study of America in 1831 and subsequently published his “Democracy in America.” Tocqueville wrote: “Upon my arrival in the United States the religious aspect of the country was the first thing that struck my attention; and the longer I stayed there, the more I perceived the great political consequence resulting from this new state of things.”
Then, and I ask each reader to think deeply on his next statement, “I sought for the key to the greatness and genius of America in her harbors ….; in her fertile fields and boundless forests; in her rich mines and vast world commerce; in her public school system and institutions of learning. I sought for it in her democratic Congress and in her matchless Constitution.” But, “Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because America is good …”
What Tocqueville discovered is that America was a Christian country and most Americans tried to live the part. So, on His Part, God showered America with wealth, opportunities and all the blessings of the first fourteen verses of Deuteronomy 28.
So, what happened! To the people and the nation? Isaiah 5:20 says it best, “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil …” Too many are the leaders and citizens of America! Tocqueville says it another way, “and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.” And Isaiah 5:18 places the blame squarely where it should be, “Woe to those who draw calamity with cords of iniquity and falsehood, who bring punishment to themselves with a cart rope of wickedness”.
Put simply, all of us in the Israel Truth nations are bringing our own punishment. We just don’t give any credit to God. America is the great nation, the good land, described in Deuteronomy 8, with all its bountiful blessings. In exchange for these blessings, God asked just two things, as recorded in verses 10 & 11. He said: “When thou has eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless the Lord thy God for the good land which he has given thee. Beware that thou forget not the Lord thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day.”
Well, this advice was ignored! As was God’s words of verse 18, “But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.”
But, rather than receiving gratitude from His Israelite America (and all Israelite nations) and keeping the Commandments, in verse 17, God foretold what would actually happen, “And thou say in thine heart my [own] power and the might of mine hand hath given me this wealth”. So, guess who took credit for the blessings. We did.
So, instead of the blessings of Deuteronomy 28, then the curses, described in the 54 verses following the blessings, click in instead. As you read them, you can understand such things as why there is financial bondage, why the stranger is in control, why disease has taken over and many other curses, including losses to a fierce nation.
Is there hope that America and other Israel nations can overcome. Of course, there is an answer. Holly Mills, in her article this month on natural disasters concluded, “We are in a time of great darkness on the earth and sin abounds. This cannot help but be reflected in the earth activity as well. God is allowing this judgment on our lands because of our sin and also because we have not been good stewards of the earth itself. The earth is the LORD’s and it is His to use as he pleases when we do not obey Him. He allows it because of our sin and because we have abandoned Him. Until we fall to our knees and ask for His forgiveness and His help it will only continue.”
Then, there is the oft-quoted 2 Chronicles 7:14, “If my people …” or Ezekiel’s “I will yet for this be inquired of by the house of Israel”. You see, whether it will take the frightening events of Ezekiel 38 or a description of such in other parts of the Bible, True Israel will go to their knees seeking help from the Lord God, after which the prophecy of Isaiah 26:20-21 will come to pass, Israel will be deposited in a safe place, then as verse 21 states, “….the Lord cometh out of his place ….” So, do not fret you devoted Christian Israelites of America, God will be there for you, even now our Lord Jesus Christ is awaiting our call.
