Light in the Darkness
Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise: when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto me.” (Micah 7:8)
November 2018 marked the 100th year anniversary of the end of the first world war, a terrible war fought in the trenches. A war that took away the lives of around 888,000 young men – leaving their families devastated. Many of those young men were but lads aged as young as fifteen or sixteen, having lied about their ages, such was their desire to go and fight for their country.
It is then, of some consolation, to know that of those who fought in that war, some had knowledge of who they were, and what they were fighting for. I am referring here to our identity as descendents of the House of Israel, and I would like to share this interesting piece of information with you.
Back in January 1918, when that war still ravaged on, a little book was published. It was called ‘Tamar Tephi: The Jewish Princess, or the Maid of Destiny’. and written by John Dunham-Massey. A copy of this book came into my possession last summer – 2018 – it was amongst a pile of old books at a farm shop, here in Devon. It is a real treasure – and I only paid a few pence for it.
The book itself is a very detailed history of the ancestry of our Royal Family, starting back in Biblical times. It is exciting because it seems Mr. Dunham-Massey had worked out for himself (no doubt under the guidance of the Holy Spirit), where lost Israel was, and that, because the Bible clearly states; “The Sceptre shall not depart from Judah nor the Ruler’s Staff from between his feet until Shiloh come; and to Him shall the gathering of the peoples be!” (Gen 49:10) and; For thus saith the Lord, David shall never want a man to sit upon the throne of the House of Israel.” (Jer 33:17), – With this in mind then, the throne must still be in existence.
The work and studying this man had taken the time and trouble to do, shows a great dedication and zeal to this subject, and it is clearly people such as he to whom we should be grateful for our Identity Groups today – especially with 2019 being the 100th Anniversary of the British Israel World Federation.
But it is not the main part of this book I wish to bring to your attention – no, it is the Preface and ‘An Apology’ (an ‘Apology’ because this humble man thought he was not good enough to have written such a book. God of course, knew better…!), which you need to be aware of. Let me quote; “In July 1915, an Oxford undergraduate, a family friend of mine, the godson of a Bishop, and destined for the Church, having enlisted in the University and Public Schools’ Brigade, was about to leave for the Front in Flanders. Before his departure, I addressed to him some lengthy epistles upon the subjects treated of in the following pages, (of his book) hoping to interest him and his chums in the trenches – all University and Public School men – in the history of Israel from Abrahamic times to the present day, opening their eyes to the intrinsic value of the Old and New Testament Scriptures as actual and dependable history of the past, and a pre-vision of the destinies of Israel up to the time of the Second Advent.”
“These letters, I am happy to say, were widely read and appreciated. The typescripts became much dilapidated by usage, and I was repeatedly urged to have them printed and issued in pamphlet form – entering more fully into historic detail than had been done in the original letters….”
“Since the original letters, forming the nucleus of this unpretending work, were written, more than two and a half years ago, much important history has been made; and it is my well-considered and deliberate opinion that all the tremendous happenings of to-day are strongly confirmative of the view…. that the Israel of the Apostles, Prophets, and Evangelists is to be found in our British Isles, our Dominions beyond the Seas, and amongst our kinsfolk in the United States of North America; – a National and United Israel to whom Jehovah’s “exceeding great and precious promises” were made and confirmed by oath, and in whom these will be literally fulfilled.”
“In the original letters … amongst other interesting topics, was the early Introduction of Christianity to “the lost sheep of the House of Israel” domiciled in these “Isles afar off,” …. I endeavoured to demonstrate, from unimpeachable evidence, that the ‘Glad Tidings of Great Joy” were first brought to Britain by actual companions and disciples of our Blessed Lord Jesus Christ – Joseph of Arimathea, Lazarus, his sisters Mary and Martha, the Apostle “Simon, the Zealot,” and others, – and that this momentous event took place very shortly after the dark tragedy of Calvary. It was also sought in those letters, to show how Christianity readily found favour at the hands of the mono-theistic Druids, and how it flourished (like seed sown in “good ground”) amongst the natives of Early Britain”. [End of Quote]
When you consider these quotes above, it surely gives some comfort that these gems of God’s Truth were being sprinkled, as it were, over some of those brave men in the trenches – many of whom lost their lives. To me it seems that God was speaking to his people in their times of dark despair. And let us consider that it was during the 1st World War that the – never mentioned – phenomena of the Angel of Mons and the White Cavalry took place. The Lord God was surely with His people on those occasions.
One can imagine that, in those days, it may have appeared as if Armageddon had arrived, and indeed it seems it did enter the minds of some. However, Mr. Dunham-Massey rightly dismissed that, considering exactly what the Holy Scriptures state concerning that last world-conflict. He does say however that “This fearful world-struggle (World War 1) is the prelude to the final stupendous battle – a time described by our Blessed Lord Himself as a time when there shall be “upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity,” and “the hour of trial which is to come upon the whole world””
I wonder what he would think of today’s world! No doubt he would be very sad at the state of Christianity in the Western world, and equally the fact that it is very difficult to get across to others, especially the younger generation, the amazing revelation of the identity of God’s people, because of disbelief in the Bible and because any mention of a separated people unto God gives rise to the call of ‘racism’.
There was a great darkness during both the 1st and 2nd World Wars, but in both cases, when all seemed lost the Light of Almighty God shone through into the hearts and minds of His people, and they were delivered. The people of those times had faith in the Lord, and when a Day of Prayer was called they all responded – with amazing results.
It behooves us to take note of this fact and boldly carry aloft, the torch of God’s Light as we tread the fresh ground of 2019. For as Mr. Dunham-Massey concludes; “The end of this age is drawing near, and the fulfilment of God’s purposes is on the eve of accomplishment. The dreadful state of all Society, the all-pervading contempt of anything and everything savouring of holiness and righteousness, and the political clouds, like the ‘smoke from the Abyss’, hanging like a sombre pall over the perplexed nations.”
Whilst our friend from 1918 did not live to see the end of this age – he clearly saw – as did many before – going back to the Patriarchs of Biblical times – the Kingdom of God – which is nigh at the door! For even then he said the “Signs of the Times’ should engage the attention of every thoughtful person. They are similar and as vivid as that mystic message written upon the ‘plaster of the wall’ of the Chaldean palace; and those who are watching and waiting for that midnight cry, “Behold the Bridegroom cometh!” can almost “see part of the hand that wrote!”
If that was 100 years ago – where does that leave us now…?
