Letters – January 2019
From Vancouver: “Some of the articles I really enjoyed in your magazine were the articles on health by Rick Coupland. He was obviously a student of research and I adopted some of his suggestions, to my benefit, I might add. I know he has passed on and is with the Lord, but do you have intentions to replace him with another health writer”.
Editor’s Comments: Rick was one in a million and his articles were widely read. I hope to find another writer who can pick up where he left off. You know, in the past, outside of occasional articles from various individuals, we didn’t have a regular writer, but that all changed in 2009. It was at our 100th Anniversary Conference that Rick (I didn’t know him at the time) came up to me and said, “Your magazine needs a writer on health topics and I would like to offer my services”. After a short discussion, I took him up on his offer and for over the ensuing seven years, he offered deep insight into so many holistic alternatives.
I remember him saying, “Health is the most vital aspect in every person’s life”. And isn’t this true? Quoting a corporate giant who faced health issues, “Health is like money, we never have a true idea of its value until we lose it.” Of course, we Christians have been given the secret of good health through the Holy Scriptures, but, so many of us do not pay it proper attention, then, sadly, good health is lost.
Stanley Burroughs, in his book, “Master Cleanser”, makes a number of points that should guide us. As to the ritual of asking God to bless the food before a meal, perhaps we should, he wrote, at the same time, ask God to bless our food preparation and proper selection of more complete foods as we go shopping, food that will advance our physical and our spiritual needs. And beseech God to give us knowledge to keep our bodies strong and healthy so we have no need to ask Him to heal a sick and ailing body that we produced ourselves by not originally obeying His simple laws.
Good health goes beyond the food we take into our bodies. I once read that good health comes from good diet, good thinking and good breathing. Still, I think it goes beyond this! Burroughs wrote, the cause of disease is no longer a mystery. The basic cause of disease is the habit of improper diet, inadequate exercise, negative mental attitudes, and lack of spiritual attunement, which combine to produce toxic conditions and malfunction of our bodies. The elimination of the cause of illness is the obvious and only way to healing and health. And at the same time, we would have to develop the proper habits that cause good health, indeed, combining these habits with corrective techniques that remove the ill effects of our former incorrect ways.
Now, I know I have gone beyond what you initially asked, but maybe, just maybe, there is an Israel Truth believer in our readership who would like to submit occasional articles on health for consideration by our review committee.
