The Gift of God
“Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given the living water.” (John 4:10).
At this time of year we can’t help but be aware of the Christmas season around us. This is a time when so many are thinking of what gifts they can buy for their friends and family for Christmas day. I often wonder though why we will not accept the greatest gift of all, the wonderful gift of eternal life through our God and Saviour, Jesus Christ. This is a gift that comes with no strings attached. We do not have to give Him a gift in return. The only thing we have to do is accept His gift of eternal life. “…whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” (John 4:14).
The world is full of violence and all of creation is in turmoil “For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.” (Rom. 8:22-23). We have abandoned God and sin is rampant in our lands. What a mess we have made. We must repent of our sin and turn back to God. Each one of us follows a different path that leads us to Christ but we must find that path or we are doomed to death rather than the gift of life. Our Israel nations are in great trouble because the people and the leaders have forgotten who they are and who was responsible for giving them all their blessings. They have forgotten the Covenants that God made with their ancestors and which still hold true today. We were to be a blessing to the nations of the earth. We have forgotten all of these things and have fallen into a world of sin. This sin will cause our destruction if we do not repent and accept God’s gift of life. “But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Rom. 6:22-23).
God’s grace in saving us from sure death through our sin is His gift to us. It has nothing to do with us. God’s mercy has allowed us a way to live rather than to die. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”(Eph. 2:8). We must accept this wonderful gift and turn away from our sin and become a new creation in Christ Jesus. Our Israel lands are in great trouble if each one of us do not repent and turn away from our wicked ways. Just think how strong we could be against the darkness that is filling our lands if we were to all turn back to our Saviour and accept His wonderful gift.
