Giving It All Away
We live today in an age when common sense is not all that common and where people have, generally speaking, not been educated properly so that they are not capable of thinking for themselves. We also live in a computerized society which has encouraged us to follow trends and to become lazy in our day to day lives, accentuated by a weariness that accompanies this more moronic state of being. How many times have we come across a scenario where someone has fallen foul of a scammer who has tricked them of all their hard-earned life’s savings. The person concerned then wails that their money has been stolen. But, in fact, their money has not been stolen or taken from them. They have quite simply given it away, often by thoughtlessness or greed.
We see this pattern in the very beginning of the history of man, as recorded in our Bible. Adam and Eve were blessed beyond their wildest dreams yet were not satisfied with their lot and gave it all away, to be replaced by a life full of grimness and toil, where none had previously existed. Later, Esau gave away his birthright for the sake of a few morsels, and as a result, he and his descendants have hated the progeny of Jacob throughout time.
In our own lives we see people leaving their spouses for others and women having abortions, both events often leading to bitter regrets. Given away! We so often undervalue those things that we have been given and are not aware of their value to us until after they have become lost. Joni Mitchell sang the words, “You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone”, adding “They’ve paved paradise and put up a parking lot”. And so it is today, where as someone once said, ‘we have underrated treasures and overrated pleasures’.
Our Lord God gave us His Son, but not in a spirit of unthinking foolishness, but because He loved us and wished to save us from our sins and His creation from destruction. And are we grateful for this sacrifice? Well, not really, or we would not behave as we do. Or compound our sins at attempts at self-justification. We have a legion of mind doctors brought up on the false precepts of Sigmund Freud and others, all of whom were deeply flawed human beings, whose behaviour would not pass much inspection. It has been said that modern psychotherapy is a tool for teaching people to sin without shame, and we have legions earning fortunes for further confusing the already confused. Just as we have tens of thousands of lawyers, who spend their entire time waging war on ‘The Law’, as set down by God Almighty.
We have to develop a sense of sincere gratitude in our lives for those blessings that we have been given. We will then open up a pathway to further gifts from Our Father God. And develop greater awareness so that “we will not be fooled again”. For the devil is first and foremost the great deceiver!
Our God longs to give us good gifts and has always done so. In the New Testament, Jesus said “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not”, when speaking of His people. The trick of this world is to encourage people to think that everything must be achieved by outwitting others. And not by honest and earnest striving after Truth. We are told by the geeks that we live in a post-Truth society. By that, they mean an age of Lies, governed by liars. That is why we have the noxious and anti-Christian delusion of all religions being equal. Well, they are not, and for this reason. Jesus Christ died for us, whereas in other faiths the people must die for their deity, if commanded to do so.
By the time that you read this article, the world may have entered a greater conflagration as a result of delinquent and repeated lies. If so, that will mean that humanity has given away the relative peace that they had enjoyed. Without appreciating it!
When all seems lost, however, we have the promise of the Eternal as recorded in Ezekiel, chapter 36:36-37. “Then the heathen that are left round about you shall know that I the Lord build the ruined places, and plant that that was desolate: I the Lord have spoken it, and I will do It. Thus saith the Lord God,; I will yet for this be enquired of by the house of Israel, to do it for them.
Amen.
