EMBRACING THE ISRAEL TRUTH
Charles Adelle Lewis Totten (February 3, 1851 – April 12, 1908) was an American military officer, a professor of military tactics, a prolific writer, and an influential early advocate of The Israel Truth. The following is an excerpt from his “The Romance of History” which he wrote in 1888. Readers are encouraged to learn more of the history of this remarkable man; the internet provides a wealth of information. Here’s what he wrote:
“It is a startling statement, and yet one founded upon ample evidence, that the Anglo-Saxon Race is the literal, lineal and blood descendant of the Ten Tribes of Israel whom Shalmaneser deported into Media circa 721 B.C. and who thereafter, and hitherto, have been so completely lost ….
It is nothing short of a miracle, stupendous beyond all others which were ever wrought, that — in these latter days of “Science and Freethought” of spreading disbelief, of triumphant Mammonism, and almost of hopeless relinquishment of the search even by the few — we of the Anglo-Saxon Race should awaken to the demonstrable conviction that we ourselves are the actual descendants of Israel, literal sons of Abraham, of Isaac and of Jacob …
The IDENTITY of the Anglo-Saxons of the British Empire, and of the United States, with Ephraim and Manasseh, and the tribes of their fellows, is a claim so startling to us who have hitherto been taught to think of ourselves as of purely ‘Gentile’ origin, that the first and natural impulse is to reject it wholly . . . The proofs are such as cannot be lightly gainsaid, and they have only to be examined to become as fruitful as the promises themselves . . .
The finding of these tribes is vital to the very integrity of the Bible.
In deep concern we therefore invite the Christian world to weigh this subject well before condemning it, for every argument which they shall advance to overthrow the Anglo-Israelitish identity cannot but REACT, and to the very same degree, upon the texts WHEREON THEY LAY THEIR OWN FOUNDATIONS …”
AMAZING! ISN’T IT?
As decades pass, great figures of the past seem to be forgotten. Britain’s wartime Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill was a giant among men, yet, history has become so blurred that growing numbers of young people know nothing about him. Yet, he led his country from the brink of defeat to victory. His life was filled with adventure and achievement and he was one of only eight people who was made an honorary citizen of the United States. He was a prolific writer and answers even today, through his book, “History of the English Speaking Peoples”, he showed why America and Britain are solid friends and allies. Here’s part of what he wrote:
“The break between Britain and America made by the American Revolution was neither complete or final. Intercourse continued and grew across the Atlantic. While America devoted her energies to the settlement of half of the North American Continent; Britain began to occupy and develop the many vacant portions of the globe. The Royal Navy maintained an impartial rule over the oceans which shielded both communities from the rivalry and interference of the Old World. The Colonization of Australia and New Zealand, the acquisition of South Africa created the new and wider Empire based on sea power and comprising over a third of the human race”.
In his book “Special relationships”, the late Pastor Alan Campbell wrote, How true were Churchill’s words, what he wrote was a direct fulfilment of our opening Scripture from Isaiah’s prophecy (49:20). “The children which thou shalt have, after thou hast lost the other, shall say again in thine ears, this place is to strait for me: Give place that I may dwell”.
Pastor Campbell then went on to clarify, The children you shall have are the Daughter Nations of the British Commonwealth; Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa. After you have lost the other meaning the loss of the original Thirteen Colonies to form U.S.A. in 1776. Shall say this place is to strait for me, that is, the British Isles, with its crowded cities resulting from the Industrial Revolution of the late 18th and early 19th Centuries, were too small to contain a rapidly expanding population. Give place to me that I might dwell, tens of thousands of Britons emigrated to the vast new lands of the expanding empire, already mentioned above.
Pastor Campbell reminded us of Deuteronomy 32:7-9 when God said, “Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations; Ask thy father and he will show thee; thy elders and they will tell thee. When the Most High divided to the nations their inheritance. When He separated the Sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel. For the Lord’s portion is his people and Jacob is the lot of his inheritance”.
He went on, in modern terminology, when God planned where the nations of the earth would ultimately dwell, He reserved the huge empty areas, rich in mineral and agricultural wealth, with the best climate, to be the homelands of the descendants of the nation of Israel, who were prophesied in the latter days or Christian era of prophecy to multiply and increase in numbers like the stars of heaven, the sand of the sea-shore, and the dust of the ground. These prophesied territories into which, Israel were to expand, were the same as the vacant portions of the globe of which Churchill wrote, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Southern Africa and the islands of the sea.
ARE WE CLOSE TO THE APPOINTED TIME?
When the prophet Habakkuk made an inquiry of the Lord, he was told to write the vision so plainly upon tablets that every one who passes may be able to read it as he passes by. Then the Lord told him, “For the vision is yet for an appointed time, and it hastens to the end: it will not deceive or disappoint. Though it tarry, wait earnestly for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry on its appointed day”. That’s all we really need to know!
One of the great Bible scholars of the early twentieth century was the Reverend Ansley F. Rash. His articles in magazines, such as The National Message, The Anglo-Saxon World and many others, were among the most-read because of the depth of his understanding. Among his works was his book, “The Message of the Minor Prophets” and I think you might benefit from these excerpts on Habakkuk. He wrote:
“THE prophet Habakkuk has often been described as the Grandfather of the Reformation because of his reference, unique among the prophets, to the great doctrine of justification by faith so strongly emphasized by the apostle Paul. It was, of course, from the Paul epistles that Martin Luther learned this sublime truth. Very little is known of the prophet himself, but it is thought that he prophesied in the latter years of the reign of King Josiah.
Rev. Rash describes him as possibly the doubting Thomas of the Old Testament, that he was deeply perplexed, possibly due to the times in which he lived being very similar to today, where darkness is covering the earth and gross darkness the people. Rash points out that as it is now, in Habakkuk’s time, the whole world appeared to lie in the lap of the Evil one.
The prophet’s response to the Divine revelation [see beginning quote] was amazing indeed. First came a recognition of the Sovereign power of Him Who had spoken: But the Lord is in His holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before Him’ (Hab. 2:20)
The prophecy ends with one of the most sublime confessions of faith ever recorded. Evidently the prophet’s doubts had all been resolved, and henceforth he was prepared to trust God through sunshine and storm, through good or ill. If only we could reach that place, how happy we should be. Habakkuk realized this and his words “Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation’ (3:18).
Rev. Rash ends by saying that truly the main lesson of this prophecy is summed up in the words of the poet:
“Behind our life the Weaver stands
And works His wondrous will;
We leave it in His all-wise hands,
And trust His perfect skill.
Should mystery enshroud His plan
And our short sight be dim,
We will not try the whole to scan,
But leave each thread with Him.”
