Humble Yourselves and Pray

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
(2Chron. 7:14).

Looking at our world today there is no doubt that we are very sick. It is often depressing to look out into this sad and ugly world and see what is going on. We are not to look at the world though for our inspiration. We are to humble ourselves before the Lord and pray to Him daily. He is our inspiration. We must keep our eyes and our thoughts focused on Him.

All of creation is waiting for the return of our Lord. “For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.” (Rom. 8: 22-23). This is our hope. We know that the worse it gets, the closer we are to the Lord’s return. What we need to do is to humble ourselves and pray constantly. This is a time to be serious about our relationship with Jesus Christ. It is not a time to puff ourselves up with our own thoughts and egos. The Lord is counting on us to do His work and He needs us to listen to Him. People today are becoming fearful and anxious about events that are happening. I have heard people say that we are heading to the end of the world. We must be ready to give a witness to what God is doing. We are not heading to the end of the world but to the beginning of a new Kingdom age.

We must pray for our Israel lands. They were to be the light of the world but instead they are now falling further and further into darkness as they turn their back on their God. We have abandoned our God and we have let Him down. Through all this He will save us for His Holy name. “But I had pity for mine holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the heathen, whither he went. Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God; I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy name’s sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen whither ye went.” (Eze. 36:21-22). Our God is such a merciful God. Although we deserve to be judged, we need mercy and we need grace even though we do not deserve it. Our God is such a forgiving God. He does not like to see all that is currently happening to us but He allows it due to our unrepentant sin. The sin in our lands will eventually bring us so far down that we will have to go to our knees. Jesus Christ is the hope for our nations and for us as individuals. Jesus said “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” (John 8:12) We must turn to the light. There is no other way out of the mess we are creating for ourselves.

Our lands are filled with people “Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” (2Tim. 3:5). We have become a culture that is bound by the laws of men and not by the laws of God. We have foolishly thought that this would give us freedom. Instead this has tightened the yoke around our necks and increased our burden. If we would only humble ourselves and allow the spirit of God to move in our lives we would be free. His laws would not be a burden but we would want to do them as we abide by the spirit of God. They are a blessing.

We are in desperate times. Our nations are sick and in need of help. We must humble ourselves and pray for our nations. We must be as Jesus who “…made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” (Phil. 2: 7-8). Jesus is our Saviour. He loved us so much that He humbled himself and became a servant. If He could come down from Heaven to do that for us, the least we can do is warn our people of what is happening and pray that they will repent of their sin and turn back to God. He is waiting for this to happen and He will heal our lands. Jesus loves us and has great compassion for us. He is waiting for us if we would only repent. Then we will hear the words: “…Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. (John 8: 11).
