The Marvelous Gift of Life
One only has to look at a new born baby to wonder at the marvelous gift of life. Even the most hardened heart can soften when they hold a baby in their arms. Unfortunately though today, our society does not often think of the young baby. We so often put them at the bottom of our list of priorities. Children have become another one of our commodities. We want to have babies by our own rules and to control the situation. In the Metro newspaper dated December 22-24, 2006 a headline reads “Made-to-order defects in babies sparks debate”. The article says, “The power to create ‘perfect’ designer babies looms over the world of prenatal testing. But what if doctors started doing the opposite? Creating made-to-order babies with genetic defects would seem to be an ethical minefield, but to some parents with disabilities – say, deafness or dwarfism – it just means making babies like them”. In another article from The Vancouver Sun dated December 11, 2006 titled ‘Need for father’ to be cut from U.K. fertility law, it says “A child’s need for a father will no longer be a consideration when a woman seeks fertility treatment in the U.K., ministers will say this week. The move – which comes despite widespread public opposition and which will give single women and lesbians the right to treatment – forms part of a shake-up of Britain’s embryology laws. One of the key proposals would allow research on test-tube embryos that were part-human, part-animal, referred to as ‘chimeras’…..The creation of combined human-animal embryos under licence will be popular among stem-cell researchers, including a team from the North East England Stem Cell Institute which has submitted plans to create a human-cow chimera embryo. However, it will be bitterly contested by ethics campaigners who brand such plan ‘abhorrent’.” It appears life has become just another scientific experiment. Is this not what was happening at the time of Noah?
What kind of a world are we creating? It is certainly not the Kingdom of God and as we continually strive to take complete control over all aspects of life and death we will fall deeper and deeper into chaos. This is our world that we are creating and it is not of God. God’s world is a world of life. We are creating a world of death through all of these scientific experiments, plus abortion, disease, immorality, etc., which is Satan’s world.
We are mocking God’s marvelous gift of life. Everything that we do is from an earthly concept. We no longer look at life from a heavenly view. We appear to suffer no consequences for our actions. The trouble is that we are extremely lost and don’t even know it! In the end though, we will get what we deserve. God has not forgotten His Israel people and He will do whatever it takes to bring us back to Him. It is He that gives us our life. “Enter ye in at the strait gate for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” (Matt. 7:14). Jesus is our life. He is our true gift of life. Without Him we are dead. We may live physically but spiritually we are dead. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6).
Today people may live their own lives in a made-to-order world, seeking life through material things and different modes of entertainment to try and satisfy their needs. This may work for a short time but they will always experience a void in their lives until they allow Jesus Christ to come into their lives and allow Him to change their hearts. We must die to our own man made lives and find the marvelous gift of life in Jesus Christ. It is only through His death and resurrection that we now have eternal life. This is His gift to us.
“Thus saith the Lord, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the Lord that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;” (Isa. 44:24).
“Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth, and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?” (John 11:25).
