Do All to the Glory of God

This concept is impossible for the world to comprehend. They seek their own way and their own glory above all else, and it matters not what the cost. Their flesh cries out “Me! me! me!” constantly and takes no thought for others, much less for God.

Even some Christians — also finding themselves in a tent of flesh — are tempted to put themselves first. They seek their own comfort and advancement, and, sadly, do not give God a thought when mapping out a course for their lives.

When you concentrate merely on your own life — your own moods and feelings and the things that you want — the only one you honour and glorify is yourself. The result of such living is that your life will become empty and meaningless, lacking joy and peace, and eventually you will come to a miserable end. It has happened time and again.

Sir Walter Scott put it thus :

The wretch, concentred all in self,
Living, shall forfeit fair renown,
And, doubly dying, shall go down
To the vile dust, from whence he sprung,
Unwept, unhonored, and unsung.

But if your chief desire is to bring honour and glory to God in everything you say and do, then your life will be full of joy. You will have a profound sense of purpose, and not only that — your every need will be met by God, because He promised that if we will seek His interests first — above all else — we will have everything we need.

I love the words of the old hymn :

I’ll live for Him who died for me,
How happy then my life shall be!
I’ll live for Him who died for me,
My Savior and my God!

This is the mark of a true Christian — living for Christ alone, and doing everything we do for His honour and His glory.
