A Changing World
“And Moses said unto him, As soon as I am gone out of the city, I will spread abroad my hands unto the Lord; and the thunder shall cease, neither shall there be any more hail; that thou mayest know how that the earth is the Lord’s.” (Ex. 9:29)
“The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.” (Psa. 24:1)
At the time of writing this article the UK has just voted to leave the EU after the BREXIT vote. Who knows what will happen in the next few months but this decision to leave the EU has certainly caused much anger and apprehension, not only in the UK itself but all over the world as the money markets have also reacted very negatively to this decision. I have heard a number of people say that we certainly are living in a changing world. I know there will be many articles written on this topic so I am going to concentrate on how we can be involved in the coming chaos and not let it depress or defeat us.
The above two verses tell us that although we live on this earth and try to take care of it the earth and all that is in it are the Lord’s. He created all that is in it and can change it all in a second if He chooses to. I took comfort in this while the Brexit vote was going on. All of our groups had prayed about it and most of us had also been praying quietly on our own. Of course the outcome for this vote has not been a peaceful one and there is much uncertainty but I believe if we have faith in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ that all that is happening although possibly leading to much chaos will eventually have a happy outcome. The things that are happening now are leading very quickly to the return of our Lord and we must build our faith.
Jesus Christ is the King of kings, “Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;” (1Tim. 6:15). He is the King of Glory, “Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.” (Psa. 24:10) We live in a world that is spiritually dead but our victory is in the King of Glory, Jesus Christ. Psa. 24:2 shows us that God takes what is chaotic and brings order, “For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.” All the earth is the Lord’s and we are to praise and worship Him. Psalm 148:5-11 says, “Let them praise the name of the Lord: for he commanded, and they were created. He hath also stablished them for ever and ever: he hath made a decree which shall not pass. Praise the Lord from the earth, ye dragons, and all deeps: Fire, and hail; snow, and vapours; stormy wind fulfilling his word: Mountains, and all hills; fruitful trees, and all cedars: Beasts, and all cattle; creeping things, and flying fowl: Kings of the earth, and all people; princes, and all judges of the earth:” The whole earth is full of His glory. “And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.” (Isa. 6:3).
When we worship God we honour Him and ask Him how we can serve Him. We must learn more and more how to turn our thoughts away from the worldly things [our gods] and turn them to the true God, Jesus Christ. He is coming soon to judge the earth and we must not be found wanting. We must build our faith so that we are ready to face all that is happening in this changing world When you are talking to others who do not believe your faith is strong it is easy to start to doubt what you believe. Do not be deceived! Hold fast and wait on the Lord. Put on the full armour of God. He will sustain you, “And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him. For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloak. (Isa. 59:16-17)
Yes, the world is changing but the eventual outcome is worth all of the uncertainty. One thing we know for certain is that God is in control. He is at the helm and there is no other name under heaven that I would rather have in control than Him. He is our Rock. Unlike our earthly leaders He is worthy of our praise and trust. Hallelujah!
“Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel, and his redeemer the Lord of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them. Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.” (Isa. 44:6-8)
