Observations with Brooks Alden

I would like to begin this column by recording a very insightful poem by an E. Jeffery, one that we published before but as been brought to my attention numerous times, poetry doesn’t capture the attention it once did. Nevertheless, this short poem has an important message. Let’s consider the first two lines:

Out of the past the present was born,
With its benefits and grace;

Since this issue highlights the birthdays of America and Canada, let me concentrate on just these two. Both countries had spectacular pasts because they had strong, inspiring leadership. Think only of America’s George Washington, or Andrew Jackson, or Abraham Lincoln or the short-lived presidency of John F. Kennedy. And Canada’s Sir John A. MacDonald, or Sir Wilfred Laurier or William Lyon MacKenzie King or John Diefenbaker. Under these men, the future was shaky at times but mostly secure. Christianity reigned and Jesus Christ was the focal point of each nation. Perhaps in the days of Kennedy and Diefenbaker, we could have still been optimistic as we read the middle two lines of the poem:

But what of the future, will it fall heir
To a heritage as true?

 It began to change around that time, perhaps even a few years before, but the future was no longer optimistic. The poet perhaps sensed or perhaps feared what the future was to bring, as he wrote his last two lines:

 Or will we of the present, cease to share
The dream that our forbears knew?

Sadly, since the Kennedy/Diefenbaker years, our countries have been on the slippery slope. We are ceasing to share the dream that our forebears knew. Indeed, over those 50/60 years, for the most part anyway, the perceived morals of industry, government, professionals, community leaders and so on, have declined so steeply that even the blind can see that behind the decline there is such a love of money that it is full steam ahead for those who pursue it. The Bible warns of this in 1 Timothy 6:10. But, let’s look at the entire verse, “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred [wandered] from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows”.

So, to achieve their goals, more and more of the corporate world and government people who embrace evil for money are wandering from the Christian faith, turning their back on God for the rewards the world has to offer. And that has changed the very fabric of our two nations.

Think about this. Over the past 50/60 years we have seen our Israel nations change from almost exclusively Christian nations to multi-religious countries, due primarily to non-Christian immigration. This is not to say there has not been much Christian immigration, for there has been and the vast majority of these non-Israelite Christians seem very devoted to the faith they were taught. But the non-Israelite, non-Christian immigration has slowly, but surely, resulted in our casting aside so much of our faith, including belief in and study of the Holy Scriptures. And sad to say, belief in the Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ.

So, we have the falling away prophesied by the Apostle Paul (2 Thess. 2:3); no wonder Jesus made the statement, “Will He find the faith when he returns”. Because without Israelites embracing their Christian Faith, it opens the door for success of the Satanic plan to bring our nations under subjection. And the very good people who have not been tainted by evil in the corporate world and government haven’t the power to withstand the evil ones. Consequently, as jobs were shipped off to third world nations, as debt and taxes crippled the middle class and as wealth has been gravitating to a few hands, poverty and neediness has enabled control of a huge percentage of the populace.

So, how is this going to play out? We know there is a massive number of people in the two countries on some sort of government entitlement and probably very little to fall back on. We know the two federal governments have debt that is rapidly becoming unstainable. We know that other nations the Bible describes as enemies of True Israel are becoming more belligerent, as they perceive weakness. We know that the war on Christianity is in full swing. We know that many of our leaders are on the side of evil. And we know the demands made by followers of false religions in our midst are adding to our weakness and the security offered by our place with the Almighty God. Worst of all, by not standing up for Jesus Christ, we are cowed and day by day, simply go along this path of evil.

And so, we are at the greatest peril of our short histories.

Yet, one day soon, events will take place that will force us to choose sides. Probably those events will herald the danger warned us by the prophets and by Jesus Christ Himself but, happily at that time most Israelites will open their eyes and choose Christ and thus bring to fruition 2 Chronicles 7:14, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land”.
