A World in Crisis
“If the foundations be destroyed what can the righteous do?” (Psa. 11:3)
At the time of writing this article our world appears to be on the brink of disaster. Headlines speak of trouble in Iraq, Afghanistan, North Korea and now Israel and Lebanon have exploded into violence. There are also warnings coming from Syria and Iran. All of these are serious issues, each one of which could escalate to a world crisis.
Internally in our Israel countries we have major problems. I was listening to a radio talk show this week and callers were complaining about the lack of law enforcement, especially by judges, also taxes, health care and the escalating violence on our streets. Pornography, especially on the internet, is out of control. Young children with webcams are being lured into the dark world of prostitution by smooth con artists. They are so slick that these young children, both boys and girls, are involved before they even realize what has happened to them. It appears to be unstoppable.
We have lost our way. We have let the foundations of our society crumble and fall and now the darkness is surrounding us.
Through all of this we must always remember that God is supreme and holy. He is in control and He knows all of these developments. “The Lord looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men. From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth. He fashioneth their hearts alike, he considereth all their works.” (Psa. 33:13-15). At this time we must ask God for wisdom. We need His guidance to get us through these difficult times. “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not and it shall be given him.” (James 1:5). We must show God our desire to follow Him and His path for our lives at this time. He will guide us and direct us if we would only ask.
Nationally our countries are in extreme danger. We have cast aside all of God’s laws, which gave us His protection, and are now complaining because things are going so badly! We are such a stiff-necked people that we still don’t see the connection between abandoning His laws and the increase in our troubles. I pray that soon our eyes will be open to the wonder and glory of the one true God. When our enemies are surrounding us we need only call upon Him in repentance and He will help us. “Then shalt thou call, and the Lord shall answer, thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am.” (Isa. 58:9).
Our world is in crisis. It appears to be getting worse and worse. It is like a snowball going down a hill picking up speed and getting larger and larger as it goes. I believe at this point there is nothing that can stop it. As individuals we must be praying for our countries and our people. We must be in constant communication with God, as we need His instruction. We must pray for national and individual repentance. It is only through our heartfelt praise of our Lord and Saviour and our repentance that we will be saved from all that is to come. God will move heaven and earth to save His people when they cry out to Him for help.
“In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears. Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth. There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it. He bowed the heavens also and came down: and darkness was under his feet. And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly; yea, he did fly upon the wings of the wind. He made darkness his secret place; his pavilion round about him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies. At the brightness that was before him his thick clouds passed, hail stones and coals of fire. The Lord also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice; hail stones and coals of fire. Yea, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings, and discomfited them. Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered at thy rebuke, O Lord, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils. He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters. He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me. They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the Lord was my stay.” (Psa. 18: 6-18)
