Just recently with all the events happening in the world I found it hard to pinpoint something to write about, but I decided to stick with my original idea on writing about the Canadian flag and could it symbolize the healing of the nations, especially as it has been flying around the world in the last few months during the truckers’ convoy. There are only two countries in the world with a leaf on their flag. One is Fiji, which appears to be two palm trees, and the other is Canada, which has a Maple Leaf in the middle of the flag. It is interesting that the Maple Leaf is very similar to the Sycamore Tree. Both of these trees happen to be healing trees.
It is interesting that our original national anthem was called The Maple Leaf Forever.
“The Maple Leaf Forever” is a patriotic song composed by Alexander Muir (words and music) in October 1867, the year of Confederation. Next to “O Canada,” which it predates by 13 years, “The Maple Leaf Forever” has been the most popular patriotic song ever composed in Canada. For generations, it and “God Save the King” were the de facto national anthems in English Canada….”. (“The Maple Leaf Forever” – The Canadian Encyclopedia) I have included the words here because they are so meaningful to our history.
Original Lyrics
(First verse and chorus only)
In Days of yore,
From Britain’s shore
Wolfe the dauntless hero came
And planted firm Britannia’s flag
On Canada’s fair domain.
Here may it wave,
Our boast, our pride
And joined in love together,
The thistle, shamrock, rose entwined,
The Maple Leaf Forever.[Chorus]
The Maple Leaf
Our Emblem Dear,
The Maple Leaf Forever.
God save our Queen and heaven bless,
The Maple Leaf Forever.
Does the healing maple leaf in the middle of our flag signify the healing power in our nations? Is God using this quiet, gentle, humble nation, that in itself is broken, is He using it to stir up not only this nation but nations around the world? Who would have thought Canada could do it, but God always works in ways we do not expect. It is interesting that in Luke 19:1-5 the Sycamore tree enabled Zacchaeus to climb high enough to see Jesus as Jesus calls him to come to Him. “And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. And behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich. And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature. And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way. And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.” Could this Sycamore tree have represented strength, protection, eternity and divinity, as some have suggested? The Sycamore tree brought Zacchaeus to Jesus! Could this be what is happening now? Is the Maple Leaf being used to lead us back to Jesus?
Canada’s flag was changed in 1965, “The debate over the proposed new Canadian flag was ended by closure on December 15, 1964. It resulted in the adoption of the “Maple Leaf” as the Canadian national flag. The flag was inaugurated on February 15, 1965, and since 1996, February 15 has been commemorated as National Flag of Canada Day. (Great Canadian flag debate – Wikipedia). That was 57 years ago. Vallowe’s Biblical Numbers shows the number 50 as Holy Spirit and number 7 as Completeness and perfection. Could this indicate something significant – with the Holy Spirit leading to His completeness and perfection for this age? At a recent SOS: National Day of Prayer for Canada, one woman mentioned in her prayer that the flag represented the Blood of the Lamb on the sides and the Maple Leaf in the middle, representing the healing of the nation(s). “The true north strong and free” as it says in our current Canadian anthem “O Canada”.
“But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:” (Acts 2:16-18)
